What activity are you checking off of your family’s fall bucket list this weekend? Watching Hocus Pocus is always a necessity for our fall bucket list. Unfortunately, the kids don’t always have the patience to sit still for it especially since they have seen it so many times. This year I decided to combine it with a fun kid’s craft to help make it fun for all of us. This glow in the dark ghost handprint shirt did the trick. It stays within the Halloween theme and went great with our movie feature. Pair this easy craft with any of your favorite Halloween movie for a fun and festive family movie night!

Materials for 1 Glow in the Dark Ghost Handprint Shirt

Plain Child’s Color T-shirt (Grab a 10-Pack Here)
White Fabric Paint
Glow in the Dark Fabric Paint (Note that we used the green version)
Scrap Piece of Cardboard

Step 1

First, remove any tags from your shirt.

Note:

If there is sticky residue left from stickers or tags wash it off of the shirt and dry it before moving on.

Step 2

Once your shirt is prepped, place a piece of cardboard inside of your shirt.

Step 3

Next, cover your child’s hand with a generous layer of white fabric paint.

Tip:

Use your finger, not a paint brush, to apply the white paint to your child’s hand.

Step 4

Firmly press the paint-covered hand onto the shirt.

Tips:

When you pull the hand back, pull it straight up.

You may need to brace the shirt so that it doesn’t pull up with your child’s hand.

Step 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the desired number of “ghosts” on your shirt.

Tip:

Vary the direction of the handprints as you place them on the shirt to create visual interest.

Step 6

After you have finished adding handprints, Mom, carefully outline each handprint in glow in the dark paint.

Step 7

Next, add a face to each ghost with glow in the dark paint.

Step 8

Set the shirt on a flat surface to let the paint dry.

Note:

We let ours dry for 24 hours.

Step 9

Lastly, toss the shirt in the dryer on high for 5-10 minutes.

Your child will love this glow in the dark ghost handprint shirt. When you’re ready to wash it, be sure to turn it inside out to help the design last longer for your child. Another fun option for this project is to purchase over-sized shirts for your kids and let them make glow in the dark sleep shirts. They will totally want to wear them for the next Halloween movie night (and every other night, for that matter). Not ready for the kid’s crafting fun to end? You know you might have a zombie obsession when you’re driving down the road and out of nowhere you hear, “Unh… Unh… Unh… I’m going to eat your brains,” from the tiny humans in the backseat. (True story, by the way.) So what do you do when your zombie love has spread to the whole family? Embrace it, of course. This DIY tabletop zombie bowling game is an easy game for the whole family. Pull it out for a fun, zombie themed family game night or whip it out for your Halloween bash. Your tiny brain eaters will love it!

Tabletop Zombie Bowling Game Materials

Plastic Bowling Game (Similar Set)
Black Acrylic Paint (Grab all of the colors with This Set)
Green Acrylic Paint
Red Acrylic Paint
White Acrylic Paint
Paint Brushes
Plastic Paint Tray
Spray Acrylic Sealant

Step 1

First, remove your bowling set from its packaging.

Step 2

Next, paint each pin black while holding the top between 2 fingers. Set the pins aside to dry.

Note:

The tops will not be covered yet.

Step 3

While the pins dry, paint half of your bowling ball black and set it aside to dry.

Step 4

After the paint has dried, cover the rest of your pins and bowling ball in black paint.

Step 5

Let the black paint dry completely before moving on to step 6.

Step 6

Next, paint your pins green and set aside to dry.

Tip:

Be careful during these steps because your paint can come off before it is sealed with acrylic sealant.

Step 7

While your pins dry, mix a small amount of red and white paint to achieve pink and paint half of your bowling ball pink.

Step 8

After the pink paint has dried, cover the rest of your bowling ball in pink. Set it aside to dry.

Step 9

Next, paint black faces on your pins as pictured above and set aside.

Step 10

While the faces dry, lighten your mixed pink paint by adding more white paint to it.

Step 11

Add squiggly “brain lines” as pictured above to your bowling ball.

Step 12

Next, paint the white face details on your pins.

Tip:

Use a small detail paint brush for this step.

Step 13

Let all of your paint dry completely.

Step 14

Next, lay out your game pieces on a protected surface and spray with acrylic sealant.

Step 15

Allow the sealant to dry, then turn your pieces over and spray the opposite side with acrylic sealant.

Step 16

Lastly, let your sealant dry and enjoy!

How cool is this DIY tabletop zombie bowling game? It is so easy to make and totally inexpensive. Whip out the frugal game all month long for laughs and family bonding. Warning: Side effects may include the tiny humans shuffling around and moaning for hours on end. Personally, that’s a side effect that’s totally worth it in my book. It is time for another awesome Movie Monday Challenge! This month we are focusing on Halloween movies which I am crazy excited about because horror films are my absolute favorite. I can’t get enough of them. That’s why it totally made sense to pick a classic horror film for this challenge. Friday the 13^th is an iconic, cult horror film that everyone at least recognizes even if they haven’t seen it. It is time to pay homage to this classic film by making this DIY Camp Crystal Lake sign. Materials

Piece of Foam Board
Black Marker
Pencil
Scissors (You definitely want this pair for this project)
Brown Acrylic Paint (Because so many colors are used, I recommend this set)
Yellow Acrylic Paint
Red Acrylic Paint
Green Acrylic Paint
Black Acrylic Paint
Blue Acrylic Paint
White Acrylic Paint
Assortment of Paint Brushes
Plastic Paint Tray

Step 1

First, outline your sign on your foam board.

Step 2

Cut out your sign with your Tim Holtz scissors.

Note:

These scissors have a shorter blade length and let you cut out your sign without destroying the foam.

Step 3

Paint the entire sign brown with a large paint brush.

Step 4

Let the brown paint dry (almost) completely.

Tip:

You want some of the paint to still be wet to mix with the yellow you are about to add.

Step 5

Next, paint yellow over your entire sign.

Step 6

This time let all of your paint dry completely.

Step 7

Next, paint the red outline around your sign with a small, detail paint brush as pictured.

Step 8

Begin adding the details to the outline by adding short brush strokes coming out from the line.

Step 9

Continue adding the details until your entire red outline is completed.

Step 10

Next, paint a red semi-circle in the bottom center of your sign.

Step 11

Add a green semi-circle around the red one.

Step 12

Then mix a touch of black paint with your blue paint and paint the water inside your semi-circle.

Tip:

Use a larger brush for this than your detail brush.

Step 13

Add a more significant amount of white paint to your blue mix until you get a sky blue color and paint the sky.

Note:

The arrow in the photo above is showing where the white brush strokes go in step 15.

Step 14

Next, paint grey hills in the background and add white details to your scene.

Step 15

Also add white brush strokes to the bottom left of your scene.

Step 16

Then add your boats and the reflections on the water.

Step 17

Next, add the tree details in green and black to the bottom left corner where your white brush strokes are.

Step 18

Lastly, add birds to the sky.

Step 19

Paint a green body on the left of your semi-circle and 2 green arms on the right.

Step 20

Then paint a red head and red details.

Step 21

Paint “EST. 1935” in black under your painted scene.

Step 22

Next, write “CRYSTAL LAKE” centered above your painted scene with pencil.

Step 23

Write “CAMP” centered about that.

Step 24

Paint the words red with your detail brush.

Step 25

Add the words “WELCOME TO” in pencil at the top of your sign.

Step 26

Add the details to the “CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE” letters as pictured above.

Step 27

Next, paint the words “WELCOME TO” in your sky blue.

Step 28

Add a red rectangle above your green body.

Step 29

Paint a green outline around the red head.

Step 30

Lastly, outline everything in black as pictured and let your sign dry completely.

I know it is a lot of painting but this DIY Camp Crystal Lake sign turned out fabulous. Now we have another awesome piece of covert nerd décor in our home which is my favorite way to decorate. In fact, this piece could easily be left out year-round since there is nothing about it that screams, “Halloween”. If you decide to display this outside be sure to spray the entire piece with a protective sealant so that it doesn’t get ruined. I would also recommend bringing it inside during storms. Now it is time to see what my friends created for this month’s Movie Monday Challenge. Definitely stop by and give them some love! My friend told me about it, they use an LED Exposure Unit to make mess free beautiful patterns that costs so much less to make then traditional painting.
