I’m so ready for St. Patrick’s Day this year! The new year has been totally crazy between my husband’s travel for work, my schedule filling up (into May already!), and adopting a puppy.
Let’s just say I’m ready to kick back and crank the tunes for a night of relaxation.
That excitement is putting me in the spirit a little early, especially with crafts. The kiddos love these easy leprechaun craft spoons and, honestly, I totally do too!
I may have miscalculated making them so early though. I’ve already watched a lot of leprechaun plays and they’ve only had them a couple of days.
Maybe I should make a few more props for them, at least. Either way, the kiddos are definitely loving them.
Leprechaun Craft Spoons Materials
- Pack of Small Wooden Spoons
- 6×6 Piece of Stiff Black Felt
- Green Felt (I chose a bright lime green)
- Green Acrylic Paint
- Small Orange Pompoms
- Paint Brush
- Black Ink Pen (or Fine Tip Marker)
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Green Sequins
Step 1
First, paint the handles of the wooden spoons with green acrylic paint. Set them aside to dry completely before moving on.
Step 2
While your paint dries, cut out a small square of black felt.
Step 3
Then cut out the edges of the black felt square so that it looks like a very tall top hat.
Step 4
Next, Cut a small part of the top of the top hat off so that it is shorter. See the picture above for reference.
Step 5
Now cut a small strip of green felt from your larger piece. Cut a piece off of the strip so that it is as wide as your as the smaller part of your top hat.
Step 6
Glue the small piece of green felt to the base of your top hat with hot glue.
Step 7
Once your green paint is dry, glue the top hat to the top of your spoon with hot glue.
Step 8
Next, glue a row of orange pompoms around the outer edge of the spoon.
Tip:
- This is easiest if you put a small dab of hot glue on your pompom then press it to the spoon instead of putting the glue on the spoon.
Step 9
Now, draw eyes on your spoon with a black pen. Try to draw them closer to the brim of the top hat instead of the beard.
Step 10
Then glue 3 more pompoms to the bottom inside of the beard.
Step 11
Next, grab one of the pieces of black felt you cut from the top hat and cut it into a bow tie.
Step 12
Glue the bow tie directly underneath the beard of your leprechaun.
Step 13
Lastly, glue a small green sequin to the center of the bow tie.
Tip:
- Prevent burning yourself and use the back end of your pen to firmly press the sequin into the glue.
Make as many of these easy leprechaun craft spoons as you want for kiddos to enjoy. They’ll enjoy helping you make them too.
Simply make sure mom helps with the hot glue parts. You can also use non-toxic white glue so the kids can make them entirely.
If you do, your easy leprechaun craft spoons won’t be as durable for play. Keep that in mind.
