Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt

It’s Wednesday and that means it is time for another awesome glow game! Unfortunately storms have been ripping through our area so we aren’t getting much outdoor time this week. Hopefully we will have sunshine for Sunday but until then let’s teach you how to make and play glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt. This is my favorite glow game so far because it is so versatile. You can adapt it for indoors, parties, vacations, and a ton of other destinations. All you have to do to change it up is make a new key and clues.

DIY Glow Can Toss

Holy cow, how are we on our fifth glow-in-the-dark game already? If summer break is starting to stress you out, though, you are going to love this one. It is not only fun but also a healthy and slightly covert way to take out your frustration. DIY glow can toss lets you whip a Frisbee at a bunch of cans for the explicit purpose of knocking them down. How cathartic is that? Of, and there’s also a bonus for you moms with little ones: toddlers LOVE re-stacking the cans so you don’t even have to reset them! This is pretty much the perfect game to whip out on those moms days when you’re ready to pull your hair out.

Step 1

Cover each of your clean cans in a different color of acrylic paint. I used red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple paint each mixed with white to brighten them up.

Step 2

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 3 (Optional)

Put a second coat of paint on your cans if you would like. I chose not to but if you do, allow the paint to dry before moving on.

Step 4

Next, add glow paint to the grooves on your cans.

Step 5

Allow the paint to dry.

Tip:

  • Fabric paint will take longer to dry than your acrylic paint.

Step 6

After your glow paint has dried, spray your cans with clear engine paint. This will make sure that the paint stands up to repeatedly being hit with your glow Frisbee.

How to Play Glow Can Toss

Set Up: Align your glow cans in a pyramid. Be sure to charge them (and your glow Frisbee) with light before playing. Next, mark spots on the ground for the different levels. Spots should be marked at the following intervals:

  • 3 Feet
  • 6 Feet
  • 9 Feet
  • 12 Feet

Game Play: The game is played by players taking turns tossing the glow Frisbee at the cans from each distance. The cans should be reset after each toss. For example, player 1 tosses the Frisbee from 3 feet away. The player gets a point for every can that is knocked down. The cans are then reset and player 2 tosses the Frisbee from 3 feet. Play continues in this way until each player has tossed the Frisbee from each distance.

Winning the Game: The winner of the game is the player with the most points at the end of the last round.

DIY glow can toss is also fantastic because there is no limit to the number of players. While it might take a while to get through the rounds you could essentially have a hundred people playing. Make a couple of sets and you are ready to keep people entertained at parties, family reunions, or summer camps. Pair it with some of the other glow games like glow stick tag and giant backyard glow pong for an awesome, over-the-top summer bash. Don’t forget to check back next week for the sixth glow game in our summer series!

Glow Balloon Tennis

Yay! It’s time for another awesome outdoor glow game. This week we’re playing glow balloon tennis and it is just as much fun to play during the day as it is at night. You will want to have a lot of balloons prepped before you play. As players get more into the game and play rougher, the balloons will start breaking. If it becomes a problem, pull out the wiffle balls from your DIY Giant Backyard Glow Pong game. Change out your balloons for the wiffle balls and players can go nuts.

Step 4

Place a glow stick in each balloon and blow the balloon up around it.

Tip:

  • Do not blow the balloon up to full capacity. Only make it large enough to hold the glow stick.

How to Play Glow Balloon Tennis

Start by breaking into 2 teams of 2 players. One team is frogs and the other team is ladybugs. Next, determine the center line and have one team on either side of it. You can mark the center with a chair if you need a visual representation. To play, one team serves the balloon across the center line. This doesn’t need to be done any certain distance from the center. The receiving team must get the balloon back across the center in 3 hits. Additionally, the same player cannot hit the balloon twice in a row. A point is scored any time the returning team fails to get the balloon back over the center in 3 hits. The first team to score 10 points wins.

Who doesn’t love batting a balloon around? Glow balloon tennis will have your family laughing and having a blast together this summer. Planning on a large party or gathering? You can easily add more players by adding more fly swatters. All of the same rules apply regardless of the number of players. That makes it a fantastically versatile game! I will see you back here next week for another awesome glow-in-the-dark idea. Until then, don’t forget to check out our other fun glow games by clicking on the photos below!
