Before you head to the fair, keep in mind that you can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks into the fair. I totally recommend doing this because eating all of your meals at the fair gets expensive really quick. Pack some sandwiches and trail mix along with water for when the kiddos start getting hangry.

Use the foods below as a fun treat to top your trip with. When you’re trying to stay on a budget, there’s no room for buying a new food that you totally hate. These 5 can’t miss foods at the Ohio State Fair take the guesswork out for you so that you know you’re ordering something that’s totally delicious. That’s worth every penny.

Flamin' Hot Cheeto Corn Dogs

Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Corn Dog

If you love Flamin’ Hot Cheetos then you’ll definitely love these corn dogs. The only con for me was that the breading isn’t crunchy which I prefer but the flavor more than makes up for it. If you find yourself craving that crunch simply grab a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto to eat with each bite.

Deep Fried Mini Gummy Burger

The name makes this sound like it totally shouldn’t work but oh my gosh, it’s freaking amazing. Of course, gummies are my favorite candy but these are more like biting into a delicious donut. Definitely a great sweet to top your fair trip with.

Pork Butt Tots

Pork butt tots are a seriously yummy mix of tater tots, pork butt, jalapenos and more that is a totally satisfying dish. Keep your energy up for all of the fun with this awesome dish or the equally delicious Philly Tots. Definitely don’t miss this awesomeness while you’re at the Ohio State Fair!

Where to Find It: Donut Burger (Dickerson and Kenna Concessions)

Turkey Leg

When you’re trying to stretch your money the turkey legs from Ohio Roast Corn are perfect. The meat is tender and flavorful plus its size makes it enough to feed multiple people easily. Pair it with a roasted ear of corn for a well-rounded meal while you take in the fair.

Gator on a Stick

I have loved gator ever since I traveled to New Orleans and tried it at the market near Bourbon Street. Now I have to give it a try any time I see some new take on it. This was absolutely delicious especially when paired with Big G’s Sriracha Sauce.

Chocolate Covered Bacon Skewers with Cherries

Bonus Food: Muddy Pigs

Bacon is delicious on its own but this turns it into a decadent treat. These chocolate covered bacon skewers are the perfect sweet and savory treat for your family to enjoy. Even better, you can enjoy it in the air conditioning which is a nice break after spending hours in the sun.

Wash these 5 can’t miss foods at the Ohio State Fair down with an iconic fair staple like a Lemon Shake-Up. The best part about them is that the large can totally be refilled with water after it’s empty so you stay hydrated while out in the heat. If you want to treat yourself, I highly recommend a Wolf’s Ridge Daybreak Coffee Cream Ale! This is easily the most delicious beer I’ve ever had especially for coffee fanatics. So many coffee beers are heavy stout beers but that is so not the case with this one. It’s full of that coffee flavor (and smell) but in a light, refreshing ale.

DIY Travel Chalkboards with Storage for Kids

Drawing and coloring are fantastic activities for road trips. That is until crayons get dropped and melt in your van. Double that aggravation if it happens in a rental. Now you can let your kids enjoy their coloring without the fear with these DIY travel chalkboards with storage for kids!

Why is it that crayons are immediately dropped and broken by kiddos? Whether it’s at the house or in the car, I swear it’s instantaneous. Since we rented our van for the drive to Disney World, I didn’t want to take the chance on melted wax. Instead, I whipped up these travel chalkboards.

The kids could draw or play games over and over and I could keep the peace of mind that we wouldn’t get slapped with a huge cleaning charge at the end of the trip. It was a big hit with the kiddos and there were LOTS of games of tic tac toe. Even better, it was also an activity that they could do in the room when we weren’t out at the parks during our trip.

I also totally recommend adding a loose sock in the case too. It makes wiping away the designs and games a breeze for kiddos. It’s also the perfect way to reuse those mismatched or too small socks!

Lastly, open up your DVD cases and place pieces of chalk inside the disc indentation on the inside of your DVD case. This ensures that it doesn’t get broken when you close the case.

My favorite part of these DIY travel chalkboards with storage is that everything is contained easily. The chalk and the eraser are right there for kiddos during the drive and they store away easily when it’s time to clean up. Of course, the $3 price tag doesn’t hurt either when it comes to keeping kiddos entertained on long trips!

Losing a child, even for a few minutes is a terrifying experience as a mom. I have totally been there and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Before we get to the tutorial, it’s important to know that these are a last resort in safety, especially for younger kids who are having difficulty remembering your phone number. It’s important to always talk to your kiddos about the rules and expectations for crowded places.

Things to Talk About with Your Kids:

Cut Apart Laminated Call Mom Cards

Step 1

First, warm up your laminating machine so that it’s ready.

Printed Sheet of Call Mom Cards

Step 2

Then print out your call mom safety cards.

Step 3

Next cut out each of your cards using a paper cutter.

Step 4

Once your cards are cut out, write your phone number on the number of cards you need. (In case you’re curious, nope, that’s not my number. Sorry. I’m sure you’re heartbroken.)

Tip:

Step 5

Then open up a laminating envelope and place your cards inside. Be sure to leave space between each card to allow for them to seal all the way around.

Step 6

Next, run your laminating envelope with the cards inside through your lamination machine.

Step 7

After your cards are laminated, cut them apart using scissors.

How to Use:

At the start of each day, place the cards inside your kiddos shoes. If at any point they become separated from you or lost, they can pull out this card and give the appropriate authorities/workers your number to call. The shoe ensures it doesn’t get lost throughout the day and the lamination protects it from sweaty or wet feet.

You also want to work with your kids early and often on learning basics like your phone number, first and last name, and home address. Of course, my oldest has a cell phone and has already forgotten my phone number so this might be necessary for older kids and pre-teens too.

For example, just checking out a new city on vacation or stopping at a Target on the way to the beach for sunscreen. It’s simply an easy tool to give you some peace of mind.
