Pink and Green Butterfly Votive Holder Gifts on Pink and Green Background

Glass votive holders at the thrift store are a dime a dozen… okay, maybe more like 25 cents each but still. You know what I mean. I can’t count the number of times I’ve strolled past them without a thought. This time I wanted to challenge myself to spend the smallest amount on my project so I grabbed 3 of these for only 75 cents.

I knew I wanted to do something spring-y but wasn’t quite sure what. Then I saw these butterfly stencil masks in my stash and thought they were perfect for spring. Boom! I was ready to start crafting.

It wasn’t until after they were made that I realized what a great gift they make and since we’re in the process of decluttering right now, why not make something beautiful to give away. Filled with candy and an electronic candle, these are the perfect easy gift for Mother’s Day, teacher appreciation gifts, and more!

Votive Holders Next to Oil Based Sharpies

DIY Butterfly Votive Holders Materials

Step 1

First, clean your glass votive holders.

Step 2

Next, place your stencils on a votive holder. I also recommend taping off the edges because it makes it easier to clean edges.

Step 3

After your stencils and tape are in place, fill in the unmasked area with one paint color. Mine needed a couple of back-to-back coats to achieve the bright, vibrant color.

Step 4

Before the paint dries, carefully pull off your tape.

Step 5

Then carefully pull off your stencil masks. This is easier with a pair of slanted tweezers. If you use your fingers, the paint is more likely to smear.

Step 6

After the tape and stencil masks are removed, let the paint dry completely.

Step 7

Repeat steps 2 through 6 for each votive holder. You can use the same stencil masks and color or you can change it up like I did.

Step 8

Once the paint is dry, place your votive holders on a sheet pan and place the pan in a cold oven.

Step 9

Set your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 30 minutes to set the paint.

Step 10

After 30 minutes, turn the oven off but do not remove the votive holders. Allow them to cool down slowly in the oven.

How to Make the DIY Butterfly Votive Holders Gift

Once your votive holders are made, you can totally keep them for yourself to use as decor. However, they also make a great gift (Mother’s Day is around the corner). Oh, and did I mention that they’re super easy to make?!

I love getting photos of friends and family in the mail. Admittedly, most of them come during the holidays but it’s still wonderful, especially if it’s from loved ones who live far away that we don’t see often.

The last time I changed out the photos with the most recent ones, I noticed that the old ones were in poor condition from the myriad of meals we cook. You don’t want to throw out the old photos simply because you’re displaying updated ones. Unfortunately, some of them are in such bad shape you don’t have a choice.

Picture Framed in Sequinned Magnetic Frame

Instead of not displaying the photos or risking ruining them, you can protect them with a DIY sequin magnetic picture frame. It’s super easy to make and budget friendly, especially if you get your frames at the Dollar Tree like I did. One multi-pack of sequins from the Dollar Tree can make 4+ frames putting you pennies over a dollar per frame. You seriously can’t beat that! (Plus, hello, sparkly!)

Step 1

First, remove your magnetic picture frame from the packaging.

Note:

Step 2

Next, determine the order you want to attach your sequins. Since all of mine were varying shades of blue and green, I put them in order from most green to most blue.

Step 3

Then, add a thin section of glue to the bottom of the frame.

Step 4

Begin attaching a line of sequins along the bottom edge of the frame and working your way up.

Step 5

Continue until you have 3 rows of one color, adding glue as needed to your frame.

Step 6

Once you have your first 3 rows of sequins glued, add a small amount of glue on the side edges of your frame being sure to leave the center open for your picture to show through.

Tip:

Step 7

Now, continue adding your sequins in rows of 3, again, being sure to leave the center of the frame open for your picture to show through. This is another reason why leaving the paper insert is important. Use it as a reminder to leave the center of your frame clear.

Step 8

Once you reach the top half inch or so of your frame, again add a thin layer of glue across the entire top and attach 3 rows of sequins.

Step 9

Check all of the edges to ensure that no glue has seeped down then set aside to dry.

Now you can easily and frugally protect those precious photos on your fridge with this DIY sequin magnetic picture frame. It is so simple to make and it makes changing out those cherished photos easy. These make wonderful simple gifts too. Add a photo of your own kiddos and give to grandparents for a thoughtful, handmade gift that doesn’t break the bank.

Easter with my in-laws is a large, casual affair. When we eat, it’s buffet style and you find a seat where you can. It’s nice but it can be equally nice to have a properly set table with a family style meal. My family is much smaller so we can all fit at one table during the holidays.

The really great part is that I get the best of both worlds. These Easter napkin rings are great for my smaller family gathering. They’re exactly what you need to dress up your Easter table too. Don’t worry, though. They are super easy to make, not-to-mention fast.

First, cut a length of craft ribbon that is 16-24 inches depending on the width of your ribbon. (The thinner your ribbon, the longer the length needs to be.)

Step 2

Next, place a small dot of hot glue on the inside of your shower ring at the place where it snaps closed.

Step 3

Now press the end of your length of ribbon into the glue and begin wrapping the ribbon around the shower curtain ring.

Step 10

Next, glue one of your leaves to the burlap so that the stem rests between the 2 eggs. (See the picture above step 9 for reference.)
