Yesterday we celebrated my brother-in-law’s 30^th birthday with a huge party full of food, family, and fun. His parents rented a venue right next to a local park and we spent the day running around with the kids playing, swinging, and laughing. It was a particularly special day for my in-laws because when my brother-in-law was 2 years old he was diagnosed with cancer and they never knew if this birthday would even come. It is a beautiful reminder to celebrate the time that you have with your loved ones. At the end of the day we were happy, grateful, and exhausted. It’s Friday and that means it is time for another summer boredom buster. This week we are bringing the outdoors inside with this paper flower wall art. All you need is your Creative Play Kit to make this awesome craft. Before we get to the tutorial I have a tip for doing this craft with small children. Mom should complete steps 1 through 6 and let little ones complete the rest of the craft. Older kids can make the entire project independently. Okay, now let’s get this craft started.

10-15 Sheets of Construction Paper
Colored Pencils
Glue Sticks
Scissors
Chenille Stems

Step 1

First, draw 2 flower petals on a sheet of construction paper.

Use that drawing as the pattern and cut through all of your sheets (except for one set aside) of construction paper.

After you have cut out your flower petals, fold the stack of petals in half.

Next, take your piece of construction paper set aside and fold it in half.

Then fold the sheet of construction paper in half again.

Hang your paper flower wall art on the wall and you’re done. This turned out so well that the flowers are currently hanging on our living room wall. You just can’t help but smile looking at them. Your kids will no doubt want some to hang in their rooms as well, so you may let them make multiples. It’s a perfect craft for a rainy summer afternoon to help keep kids creative and entertained. Summer is the perfect time for outdoor parties and entertaining. Luaus are a popular theme because they are fun, festive, and make you feel like you’re on a mini-vacation. Luaus create an oasis in your own backyard complete with family and friends. This is also an easy theme to DIY. You can line your tables with fringed green plastic tablecloths to represent grass skirts. You can make your own easy invitations and you can paint your own decorations. These finger painted giant tiki men are a fun and messy luau craft that lets kids get their hands dirty. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about the mess when you unleash your Clean Squad!

Prepping for Your Project

Before you get started painting you need to take the family for a trip to your local Wal-Mart and pick up Clorox Spray and Viva Vantage paper towels. We love how wide the aisles at Wal-Mart are! They are perfect when you have the whole family with you. They also make it easy for kids to get in on the shopping action. Little man could even shop from Papa’s shoulders which made him infinitely happy.

Once you get home, you want to clear a large space for your painting project. We moved the table and chairs from the dining room for our project. That gave us plenty of space to work with.

Unfortunately, when we moved the furniture I found some stains from goodness knows how long ago on the floor. (Note to self, kids are messy!) Thankfully, I already had my Clorox Cleaning Spray and Viva Vantage paper towels. I didn’t even have to let the Clorox soak on the stains. The stains wiped right up. Score! Once I finished, we had a clean, disinfected surface (thanks to Clorox Cleaner’s 99.9% germ killing strength) and were ready to get started.

Giant Tiki Men Materials

Roll of Children’s Craft Paper
Washable Paints
Permanent Marker
Scissors
Tape

Step 1

Tape the edge of your paper roll to the floor.

Step 2

Roll out the paper 3-4 feet and cut it.

Step 3

Next, tape the cut edge to the floor as well.

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 for each tiki man that you want to create.

Step 5

Begin drawing your tiki man by adding the bottom detail to the first sheet of taped paper.

Step 6

Next, outline the mouth as pictured above.

Step 7

Add a second line inside of the mouth to form lips.

Step 8

Then draw teeth inside of the lips of your tiki man.

Step 9

Next, draw a semi-circle above the center of your mouth.

Step 10

Finish drawing the nose as pictured.

Step 11

Add eyes on either side of your nose.

Step 12

Draw the triangle details under each eye.

Step 13

Next, add an eyebrow above the eyes.

Step 14

Lastly, draw the headdress above the eyebrow.

Step 15

Continue onto drawing tiki men on your papers until each one has a design.

Step 16

Give kids paint and a Viva Vantage paper towel to wipe their fingers on between colors.

Step 17

Let the kids go nuts painting their tikis.

Step 18

After the kids have finished painting, let the tikis sit to dry.

Step 19

Remove the paintings from the floor carefully to avoid ripping and hang them on the wall where you want them displayed.

Once you have finished your finger painted tiki men it is time for clean-up. With Clorox cleaner this took us no time at all. Seriously, you guys, we spent less than 5 minutes getting everything cleaned up, including squirmy kids. The craft took longer than the clean-up and that’s how it should be. The fun should always last the longest. The Viva Vantage paper towels last, too. We used one on the floor and it was strong enough to finish the entire job!

They are also soft enough to clean up the kiddos with. Now we have clean floors, happy little ones, and fun finger painted giant tiki men for our luau.
