When is the last time you made physical contact with your husband a priority? One of the things my husband and I are focusing on this year is making date nights a priority.

Since we’re also intensely paying off debt, these date nights have to be frugal too. However, that doesn’t mean they have to be boring.

After hating most of what we found on the internet (except for the awesomeness over at The Dating Divas) we decided to come up with our own.

So I’m just gonna say it: my husband and I are so much happier when we’re having sex. When we make sex a priority everything else in our lives runs smoother.

We fight less. We are more patient. It’s not just us, either.

Sex improves your mood because of basic biological chemistry. It is releasing those feel-good hormones that make stress and anxiety dissipate. There are tons of additional speculated benefits as well.

According to this article from Woman’s Day, it can even be good for your skin. Score!

Unfortunately, we too often put sex on the back burner. When physical intimacy stops being a priority in our marriage, other areas start to suffer as well.

That’s why this first frugal date night is all about the bedroom. I’ve got 2 free printables that will make this date night a breeze and your husband will love it!

How To Enjoy Your Bedroom Egg Hunt Date Night

After the little ones have gone to bed, lead your husband to the bedroom. Tell him that there are eggs hidden that he has to find. Each time he finds one, he opens it and has to do what is written inside. Feel the desire build with each egg found. At the end (if you can last that long) finish the game with the big finale.

This after dark bedroom egg hunt date night is the perfect frugal and low-prep idea to rebuild the passion in your marriage. It is time to make physical intimacy a priority again in your relationship.

This is also a great way to get your husband on board with weekly or monthly date nights with a bang (no pun intended).

Change it up between physical intimacy one date night and emotional intimacy the next date night. This will help you grow closer on every level and that is the ultimate goal for our marriages.

4 Steps to Find Balance as a SAHM

How many times have you come to the end of your day and feel as though you got nothing done? Somehow you feel absolutely exhausted. Where did the time go? Find out with these 4 steps to find balance as a SAHM (stay-at-home mom).

This problem is not exclusive to SAHM’s but it is uniquely more difficult to overcome. Why? It is because you don’t have any of the external forces determining structure for you. You don’t have a desk dictating when your day starts and ends. There is no incentive to shower each morning. Every day is a blank canvas waiting for you to structure it. That’s hard!

Don’t be discouraged during this process. You might find out you’re spending hours binging on Netflix each day like I did. It’s sobering to see what you really spend your time on. However, it doesn’t have to stay that way. I’m now more productive than ever and can take a break guilt-free.

Step 1: Get an Hourly Tracking System

The first step to finding balance is to know where your time is being spent. Before you can do that, you need a system to track your time. Luckily, there are multiple ways to do this.

You can create a note on your phone to do this digitally. Grab a piece of paper and use it to track your time. My favorite option (and the one that I personally used) is an hourly planner sheet for my Happy Planner. The reason this is my favorite is because it can also be used later when planning your day.

Step 2: Track Your Time

This step is done in one week, Monday through Friday. Set an hourly timer on your phone. Each time it goes off, reset it and write what you are currently doing in the corresponding time slot of your tracker.

The key here is not to change your current habits. If you are scrolling through Facebook, keep on scrolling after you take a moment to note it. At the end of the week you will have a typical week mapped out.

Step 3: Evaluate Your Results

Now it is time to evaluate you results. Grab a set of highlighters and follow the steps below:

  1. Create a color-code key with the highlighters. (See the photo above for reference.)
  2. Next, use your key as a guide and highlight each hour on your tracker according to what category it falls into.
  3. Use the colors as a visual guide to where you are wasting time and what needs more of your time.

Step 4: Restructure Your Day

Once you’ve evaluated how you spend your hours, it is time to restructure your day. Think of this like a budget. Just as you have to tell your money what to do with a budget the same goes for your time.

If you don’t tell your time where to go you will find it gone with nothing to show for it. Lay out activities on your hourly planner for each day of the week. Color code those activities as well to ensure that you are balancing your time.

Important Tip

Don’t fall prey to believing that every day has to look the same or equally balanced. Some days involve more homemaking tasks and others will be heavy with family time. That’s okay. Instead of trying to balance all of your responsibilities each day, strive for a weekly balance.

These 4 steps to find balance as a SAHM are a lifestyle change. You can write down your restructured day then not follow the plan. That is like creating a budget but not spending your money according to it. Planning is only the first step. Action is what makes it a reality.

Growing up I always looked forward to game night. We had absolutely no money but that didn’t stop us from having fun.

It was always a big deal when our friends came over for a game night. It meant lots of laughter and it meant we got to stay up later than usual.

Sometimes our friends would bring a new game for us to play which led to even more hilarity figuring out how to play it. These are the fond memories I want to share with my friends and kids now.

When you’re trying to get out of debt, game nights are awesome. They are an inexpensive way to get together with friends and create memories that make you laugh for years to come.

Unfortunately, not all games are equal when it comes to interaction and fun. A Monopoly night is great for family game night but not so much when you have a large group of friends over. These game ides are perfect for a fun game night with all your friends!

Smart Ass

This is a hysterical game that is perfect for the hyper-competitive friends in your group (which is totally me, btw). Each card has a Who, What, or Where question along with 8 clues that narrow down the answer.

As the clues are read, everyone gets a turn to guess. The best part is that this game is fun for the card reader too. Some cards you will know which clue is going to give it away and it can be fun to tease a little over it.

What Do You Meme

This is like a fun new twist on Apples to Apples. A meme is placed on the table and each player chooses a card from his or her hand that best represents that meme. If the judge for that round chooses your card as their favorite, you win that meme.

This is a great game for that friend that is constantly filling your Facebook feed with memes!

Taboo

If you haven’t played Taboo yet, you are missing out. This is a great game for couples or for large groups since there is essentially no limit. What makes this game so hysterical is the creative ways you get your teammates to guess the word. The better you know your team, the better you will do.

Balderdash

This is an oldie but a goody. It is the game of ultimate trickery and b.s. for everyone.

The reader draws a card with a word, person, date, or more on it. Each player then writes down their own made up definition or significance of the card while the reader writes down the truth (listed on the card).

When the reader reads the answers aloud, players vote on which one they think is real. You can see how this quickly and easily leads to laughter and fun.

Watch Ya’ Mouth

This game is straight up bananas! Each player takes turns inserting his or her mouth guard (don’t worry, each player gets their own) and reading a card. Players try to guess what is being said.

The first one who does, wins that card. It sounds simple but it is incredibly difficult. No matter how hard you try to enunciate you will fail.

This is one of those games that I never would have tried if friends hadn’t gotten it but I’m so glad they did. It is a blast!

Bonus Game Idea: Cranium

This is one of my favorite games (after Scattergories, of course). It’s crafting, charades, Pictionary, and more all rolled into one.

Sculpt the word on your team’s card in clay or act out a famous song. There is no end to the hilarity with this fun game.

It is another one that is perfect for large groups of friends to play.

These 5 games for a fun and frugal night with friends are the perfect way to get some group hang time without derailing your budget goals. You may not be able to afford nights or dinners out while you’re paying off debt but that doesn’t mean you can’t still rock a game night.

Come back later this month to find out how to save money with a pitch-in party. It is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to entertaining on a budget!

Now I want to know what your favorite board games are. We’re always on the hunt for awesome new ideas to try out. Let me know in the comments!
