Seriously, these kids are 3, 5, and 9 and they are huge! They have insatiable appetites and, despite my best efforts to keep them little forever, they continue to grow.

That means that twice a year, every year, I am mounted with the humongous task of clothing them. This is no easy feat but I’ve developed some tricks over the years to keep costs low.

Scarves displayed at a yard sale

Yard Sales

You can score some amazing deals at yard sales. It’s not all junk, either. With the pace at which kids grow, some of this stuff doesn’t even get worn. I’ve gotten brand new packs of socks for pennies or barely worn jeans for a buck. You simply can’t beat that.

Plus, chances are that your kids brand tastes are the same as all of the other kids. That means you’re finding the same awesome items at a fraction of the cost.

Cons:

Unfortunately, yard sales are a lot more legwork for you. It can take multiple sales to find everything you need which means an entire day spent hunting. If you have little ones in tow, it can be even longer (and more difficult).

Thrift Stores

Yep, I’m not above getting our clothes from thrift stores and you shouldn’t be either. One of my all-time favorite clothing brands is Banana Republic. Their stuff is always well-made, comfortable, and holds up through the years.

Guess what: I’ve scored multiple articles of Banana Republic clothing at Goodwill for less than what you’d pay for Target clothes! Plus, thrift stores regularly run sales on seasonal items meaning you can get summer clothes at even deeper discounts.

Cons:

You need to know your brands. Some brands hold up much better than others, especially when it comes to rough and tough kids. Buying a shirt for a dollar doesn’t save much when it falls apart after the first wear.

Target

Speaking of Target, their clearance racks are an awesome way to score brand new clothing at rock bottom prices. Their in-house brands are fantastic and you can easily get your kids everything they need. If buying used freaks you out (even though it totally shouldn’t), this is a nice budget-friendly option.

Cons:

If your child wears a popular size, it might be more difficult to find on clearance. While paying full price is still cheaper than department stores, it isn’t going to help you with that bottom budget line.

Swap

This is my new best friend when it comes to clothing shopping. Trust me, once you try them, you will be in love too.
Swap is an online consignment shop that has thousands of options. You can sort items by size, price, condition, and more making it easy to find what you need.

The prices are incredible and you can get everything on your list without even leaving home. Plus, if you spend $60 or more, you get free shipping.

Cons:

You can’t try on the clothes before you buy. Luckily, they have an awesome return policy but it can still be frustrating to have an item that doesn’t fit especially if you loved it.

Now you can keep your kids clothed and stick to your budget with these easy ways to save money on summer clothes. Last winter, I got everything the kids needed for the season for around $75.00 and that’s for 3 kids!

I didn’t have to load everyone up, get in the car, and go shopping. I sat on my couch and ordered everything from Swap. It came straight to my door. Score!

I am a planner at heart. Lists, calendars, and detailed schedules are kind of my thing. Unfortunately, my kids haven’t caught that bug yet.

As they have gotten older, the usual by-the-numbers schedule doesn’t cut it during summer break. Instead, we’re taking a new approach this year with this DIY summer activities board.

Each day has a specific theme and has only one “structured” activity. This theme is a little different than your average summer calendar. I wanted to make sure that we remained productive.

Theme Days

Mommy Mondays

Each Monday the family will take part in a home improvement, decluttering, or cleaning activity chosen by me. These are not huge undertakings because I don’t want it to take the entire day.

Instead these should be smaller activities. Some that I included are:

Tech-Free Tuesdays

Tuesdays are reserved for anything that doesn’t use technology. This means no video games, tablets, or television. These days are mostly filled with crafts such as:

A couple of the days I want to take it a step further and make dinner without electricity. Then we will spend the evening by candlelight.

Wandering Wednesdays

Wednesdays are all about getting out of the house. We have a zoo membership so I included multiple zoo days in our schedule. Other activities include:

Think It Thursdays

Keep your kids learning with “Think It Thursdays”. These days will have science experiments, writing activities, and hands on learning. Luckily, it’s easy to keep the learning fun. For example, we will be:

Family Fridays

Of course, summer isn’t summer unless you get some family time in. Family Fridays keep us close with fun activities like:

When we first moved into our house, we loved hanging out outside. Then as life got more chaotic it started to die down. I hadn’t even realized how little time we were spending in our yard until trick-or-treating last year.

We stopped at a neighbor’s house whose backyard is up against ours. She commented on the fact that she never sees us in the yard anymore.

Now, on the one hand, she has an awesome pool with a giant deck and we do not. On the other hand, how sad is it that our yard was one of the selling points for us choosing our house and we never use it?

This year I’m on a mission to change that. Unfortunately, after a year or so of disuse, the backyard is looking a little a lot drab. That’s why I’m so excited about the first ever Way Day!

Key Components For Backyard Entertainment

Before we get onto what you can expect at the Way Day sale, let’s get a game plan ready. There are a few key elements to making your backyard an oasis.

Why Shop the Way Day Sale

We love Wayfair for furniture and home decor. You can find unique and awesome pieces, like this pineapple lamp in my office, for great prices. Seriously, almost every new piece of furniture we own came from Wayfair.

This stuff holds up! Our kids beds are all from Wayfair and, despite the kids’ best efforts, they are all just as strong and pretty as the day we assembled them.

That’s why I have to share the brand new Way Day sale with you. Wayfair is putting a new home holiday on the map with rock bottom prices on all the stuff you need to get ready for the outdoors. We’re talking prices as low as Black Friday deals!

Mark your calendars for 12 am on Wednesday, April 25 when more than 70,000 products start going on sale. As if that weren’t awesome enough, they will also be launching door-buster deals every 6 hours!

What’s to Expect

On the 25th you’ll find tons of seasonal items including patio furniture, umbrellas, hammocks, and fire pits. You can turn your backyard into an oasis your family never wants to leave.

Don’t worry, though. Way Day has you covered inside as well. Price drops can be found in kitchen and dining, rugs, and more.
