DIY Mini Pompom Monsters Kids Craft

These adorable little guys are inspired by bad mom days. Have you ever been having a bad mom day? The kind of day when you forget to hit start on the coffee maker only to realize it when you go to get a cup of coffee? Have you had the kind of day when you walk into the living room after finish the dishes to see that your toddlers have ripped up all of the tissues? Oh, and tossed them all over the room like snow?

All the while your youngest daughter has been “going potty” and comes out covered in your makeup. On those days you are fuming and feel surrounded by tiny monsters that you created. Then, when you’re ready to break down in tears and wine, they run up to you and throw their arms around your leg. They look up at you with wide, adorable eyes and say, “Mommy, I love you.” That heart-melting moment when you realize that these adorable little monsters are all yours and you wouldn’t change it for the world is what inspired this week’s DIY mini pompom monsters.

DIY Coffee Mug Organizing Rack

Coffee is an important part of my life. Just the smell of a fresh pot brewing instantly lifts my mood (any time of day, I might add). Because of this absolute love of coffee, one of the most difficult areas to de-clutter are my coffee mugs. I began collecting them on my travels many years ago in high school. They mean a lot to me and some are irreplaceable. That’s why it was a big deal when I took on decluttering this spring that I pared down my collection. I kept the ones that I simply couldn’t part with and decided that items that emotionally charged deserved to be displayed. Thus, this DIY coffee mug organizing rack idea was born.

Guests will be able to strike up a conversation about your unique collection and you will have freed up extra cabinet space. One last tip I want to leave you with: Definitely hand this on the wall and don’t skimp on the Command Strips. I got impatient and wanted to test out my DIY coffee mug organizing rack. I loaded it up and leaned it against the wall behind our coffee pot. The next day, I walked past it, into the kitchen, and immediately heard loud crashing and glass breaking.

I knew before I had even seen it that the mug rack had fallen. I saw the shattered mugs that meant so much to me and wept. Thankfully, not all of my mugs were on it yet. Once I hung the organizer, I tested it by pulling down on it with all of my strength. It didn’t budge so I felt very confident. It has now been hanging for 3 weeks with mugs on it and no more incidents.

Easiest DIY Comforter Makeover in the World

When you are giving a room a makeover on a budget every penny needs to be spent wisely. You have to stretch your imagination to get a gorgeous and cohesive design on a tight budget. One of the things that led to the chaotic look of our boys’ room is that their bedding didn’t (and never has) match. New bedding sets are expensive and also their bedding is still in great condition. If you are anything like me then you have a problem with replacing perfectly usable items. Throw our small budget into the equation and new bedding was out of the question. I still wanted matching bedding for the room so I came up with the easiest DIY comforter makeover in the world.

**If you are only making a toddler comforter skip to step 4. For all other size comforters start at step 1.**

New comforter sets are expensive. Find out how to rock your bedroom makeover on a budget with the easiest DIY comforter makeover in the world.

Step 1

Cut your fabric into 2 pieces that are the length of your comforter.

Note:

  • Larger comforters may take more than 2 lengths of fabric depending on the width of your fabric.

Step 2

Pin the 2 pieces of fabric lengthwise, right sides together, matching up patterns as needed.

Step 3

Sew along your pinned side.

Step 4

Next, unfold your sewn fabric and measure it against your comforter. Trim any excess fabric.

Step 5

Place your sewn fabric right side down against the side of the comforter that you want to preserve.

Note:

  • For example, I wanted the Captain America to still be visible once finished so that is the side my fabric went against.

Step 6

Now pin all of the outside edges of the comforter and fabric.

Step 7

Sew all the way around your comforter but leave one corner unsewn, roughly 5 inches on each side of the corner.

Step 8

Next, turn your comforter right sides out.

Step 9

Fold the fabric at the corner under to get and even seam and pin the folded fabric to the edge of your comforter.

Step 10

Lastly, sew up your pinned corner.

With the easiest DIY comforter makeover in the world I was able to make 2 matching comforters and some accents for only $34.00!! You definitely can’t get that deal at a store. (Well, technically I got the fabric from Joann’s so I guess you can get part of that deal at a store.) Now we are one step closer to our awesome camping themed boys room and our budget is on track. Now it is time to start on the dresser update. Find out next week how I’m taking a plain dresser and making it better. It is not only going to get a paint job. I will be adding additional storage to make it a more multi-functional piece of furniture. Until then, you can see our overall plan for the boys room makeover and get my tips for painting the walls and ceiling.
