DIY Kid Decorated Can Koozie + Father’s Day Gift Bag

Help Dad keep his drinks cold while he grills a delicious meal with this DIY kid decorated can koozie. Then wrap them up with a Father’s Day gift bag! #ad

I am so excited to be partnering with Oriental Trading again to bring you some awesome Father’s Day projects. This project takes your gift all the way from creation to delivery easily. Summer is the time of year for hanging outside and enjoying the sunshine. From BBQ’s to summer parties, all of that outdoor fun unfortunately leads to drinks getting warm in record time. That is the only downside to the summer weather. Help Dad keep his drinks cold while he grills a delicious meal for the family with this DIY kid decorated can koozie. They are so easy to make that we made one for all of the grandfathers too! Then we wrapped them all up with a DIY Father’s Day gift bag. Boom! The gifts are ready to go.

Step 1

First, give each child a blank koozie.

Step 2

Next, open up your fabric markers and divvy them up between the kids.

Tip:

  • I recommend using at least 2 sets of markers to prevent fighting over colors.

Step 3

Now, let your kids go nuts decorating the can koozies.

Notes:

  • These markers hold up to my rough and tough little man which is awesome!
  • While the older kids will take their time the younger ones will fly through their decorating. If they finish before the other kids, allow them to move onto decorating their tie cards.

  • Bonus Tip: be sure to point out which end is the bottom of the koozie. I did not and you can see that baby girl decorated one of hers’ upside down. I think I’m just going to tell Papa that it’s so he can see the design when he takes a drink. Lol!

Step 4

After the kids have finished decorating their can koozies, label the bottom of each one with his or her first initial and the year.

Step 5

Lastly, throw them in the dryer on the highest heat setting for 30 minutes to set the designs.

Tips:

  • Do not wash them before setting the designs.
  • Don’t put anything else in the dryer with your koozies when you set them.

Father’s Day Gift Bag Materials

Step 1

Give each kid a tie card. If you have more gifts to give than kids decorating, give the kids more ties to color. You will need one tie for each gift bag.

Tips:

  • We used crayons on ours and the coating on the cards made it very difficult. That is why I recommended markers in the materials list.

Step 2

Push the metal end on the elastic cord through the pre-punched hole on the top of the card.

Step 3

Next, straighten the metal end to secure it behind the hole.

Step 5

Lastly, attach your tie card to one gift bag handle by tying the elastic cord in a slipknot around the top.

Step 6 (Optional)

After putting your gifts in the bags, top each one with 2-3 pieces of tissue paper.

Fallout Guy Can Koozie

My husband is super into the Fallout games. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a post-apocalyptic shooter game. I personally don’t get the draw of it but then again, he doesn’t understand my love of the Sims. He loves it when we find merchandise with the little dude on it. That’s why I decided to surprise him with a hand-drawn one on a can koozie. You can check out the quick photo tutorial below to see how I made it. Keep in mind that I free handed the drawing so there is no pattern.

Note:

  • I used the pink fabric marker to color the skin. Do this very lightly.

Easy DIY Star Wars Lamp Makeover

This month I was super excited that we were celebrating the upcoming 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope for the Monthly Movie Challenge. Then I realized how hard it is to come up with an awesome craft to pay homage to it. I wasn’t the only one, either. We all struggled to come up with crafts and recipes. Finally, I decided to make an awesome Death Star lamp but I couldn’t get it to turn out. Then I remembered that I still had some fabric leftover from this Star Wars Sleep Shorts project. Thus, this easy DIY Star Wars lamp makeover was born.

Step 1

Clean your lamp if needed. We hadn’t been using ours so it had a nice coat of dust on it.

Step 2

Remove the lampshade from your lamp base.

Step 3

Next, use the lampshade to measure the width of fabric needed.

Note:

I was ecstatic because the fabric I had remaining was already the perfect width. If yours isn’t, trim it so that there is ¼ inch excess on either side.

Step 4

After you have measured your width, measure your length by wrapping your fabric around the outside of the lampshade.

Tip:

Do this with the wrong side of the fabric facing out.

Step 5

Next, mark the edge where the fabric overlaps. See the picture for reference and keep in mind that you want to keep a slight overlap.

Step 7

Next, find the seam of the lamp shade and add a line of hot glue to it.

This DIY Star Wars lamp makeover couldn’t be easier. I love how it turned out. There is one problem, though. My husband wants to put it in the master bedroom. Me? Not so much. Wish me luck that we can compromise on the family room. Hopefully you don’t run into the same problem with your husband. Either way, don’t forget to check out all of the awesome projects from my friends. There are some great ideas as always!
