Fun Kid Craft: Googly Eyes Monogram

We’re back this week with another craft for kids using the Creative Play Kit! The kids had a blast making this one because it involved googly eyes. I have no idea what makes these little plastic pieces so entertaining but my kids go nuts for them. That’s what makes them great for creating fun bedroom décor that kids will love hanging on the wall. Even better is that this googly eyes monogram is super easy to make. Older kids will have no trouble and younger children will do great with a little guidance from mom.

Step 1

Have each child choose a color of construction paper for the monogram.

Step 2

Next, draw each child’s first initial in block lettering in the center of the construction paper.

Tips:

  • Mom, you may want to do this part for kiddos.
  • Use a lighter colored pencil to draw your letters. I used white on the paper so that there isn’t an obvious outline on the artwork.

Step 3

Next, give each child the monogrammed construction paper, a glue stick, and googly eyes.

Step 4

Have kids begin gluing the eyes inside of the monogram starting with the largest sized eyes.

Tip:

  • Place the eyes at random over the monogram. You want them to be spread out.

Step 5

After the large eyes have been added begin filling in more of the monogram with the medium eyes.

Step 6

Lastly, fill in the remainder of the monogram with the smallest googly eyes.

Step 7

Frame your child’s monogram and hang it on the wall. We used these child’s artwork frames and they worked great!

It is that simple to create custom art for kids’ rooms. They will love making this googly eye monogram and love showing it to family and friends. I do recommend having each child choose one style of googly eyes for a more cohesive look (it will also preempt any arguments during creation). Too many different styles can make the monogram look messy. Luckily there are 4 different styles in the Creative Play Kit which makes sticking with one easy. If you haven’t checked it out yet, don’t forget about the awesome Kids Behavior System that we made last week. The kids love earning their M&M treats and I’m loving the calmer days. See you back here next week for another fun kid’s craft!

When we started creating out coasters the plan was to have the kids draw directly on the coasters. That worked great for the youngest who mostly just scribbles anyway, but the middle one struggled with it. In fact, she got so frustrated that she scribbled out her frustration. You can check out her angry scribbles in the photo below. That frustration is what inspired me to transfer images she drew on paper to the wooden coasters, instead. Live and learn…

Step 1

Fold a piece of paper into fourths and give it to your child along with a pencil. Let him or her know only to draw on the fourths. This will help make sure that the drawings fit on the coasters.

Tip:

  • Older kids can do this step on their own but I recommend mom doing this step for the little ones.

Step 5

Add each child’s first initial to the corresponding drawings on the coasters.

Note:

  • The engine paint can withstand extreme temperatures making it perfect for durable coasters.

Step 9

Next, flip your coasters over and spray the back as well to fully seal them.
