It’s March 1st and that can only mean one thing: It’s time to start crafting for St. Patrick’s Day! As promised on Sunday, here is the first green craft for the year. These DIY custom beer mugs for St Patrick’s Day are easy to make and the perfect home for your green beer this year.

This month I’m trying out a new fun blog hop. Every month we are given a craft medium and we have to create a DIY project with it. You know how much I love a challenge and this month is Mod Podge! Of course, that is the perfect excuse to pull out the glitter.

These DIY custom beer mugs for St. Patrick’s Day are full of sparkle and fun, perfect for any celebration. No worries if you’re not a beer drinker. They can totally be filled with whatever you want, like this family-friendly Lucky Lime Punch Recipe!

Even better, these babies are dishwasher safe on the top rack after they are fully cured. The wait time is the worst part of this project but the end result is so worth it. Not to mention, it’s a super easy craft to actually make.

Custom Beer Mugs Materials

2 Small Clear Glass Steins
Rubbing Alcohol
Cotton Balls
Shamrock Stickers (The shamrock in this project is about an 1 1/2 inch wide)
Green Glitter
Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe
Painters Tape
2 Sheets of Construction Paper

Step 1

First, clean your mugs with rubbing alcohol as recommended on the Mod Podge instructions.

Step 2

Next, add a strip of blue painter’s tape to the top of one of your clear glass steins. It should be at least 2 inches wide from the lip of the stein.

Step 3

Now, attach one of your shamrock stickers to the front of the glass stein. Be sure to press it down firmly to ensure it is nicely adhered to the glass.

Step 4

Then cover your clear glass stein in a layer of Mod Podge. Do not cover the handle.

Step 5

Before adding glitter, place a piece of construction paper on your work surface. This protects the surface and also makes it easy to return excess glitter to the container.

Step 6

Next, generously coat with green glitter. Shake off the excess as needed and return the excess to your container when you finish.

Step 7

If needed, touch up any areas that need additional glitter. You want a nice even coat on your stein.

Step 8

Then carefully remove the shamrock sticker and painters tape from your stein. Touch up any areas where the Mod Podge seeped under the tape or sticker.

Step 9

Set your stein to the side and allow to dry for 2-3 hours.

Step 10

Next, cut the shamrock sticker outline out of your sticker sheet.

Step 11

Carefully place the shamrock outline on your glass stein, again firmly press the edges to ensure they are stuck to the glass.

Step 12

Because the edges on the shamrock outline are so thin, press painters tape around them.

Step 13

Now, add a coat of Mod Podge to the shamrock.

Step 14

Again, place a piece of construction paper under the stein and cover the shamrock in a generous coat of green glitter.

Step 15

Then carefully remove the painters tape and shamrock sticker outline.

Step 16

As before, touch up any areas where the Mod Podge seeped under.

Step 17

Now set your stein aside and allow to dry for 2-3 hours.

Step 18

After your steins are dry, add another coat of Mod Podge to each. Take care to only cover the glittery areas.

Step 19

Again, allow the steins to dry another 2-3 hours.

Step 20

Repeat steps 18 and 19 two more times. Make sure you allow each coat to dry before adding the next.

Step 21

Lastly, allow your steins to cure for 28 days. Once they are cured, they are dishwasher safe on the top rack.

I’m totally in love with how these DIY custom beer mugs for St. Patrick’s Day turned out! They are glittery, pretty, and green… everything you want for a fun holiday. Share one with a girlfriend or give one to hubs to use (I recommend keeping the extra glittery one for yourself because, shiny). Either way, you’ll love sipping your favorite festive drink out of this DIY creation.

That is exactly what happened with these DIY glittery shamrock fairy dress up accessories. Once you get in that creative mindset it can truly take on a life of its own. Now, you can let your little one prance around to her heart’s content this holiday as an adorable shamrock fairy.

Originally, I only had a shamrock headband in the editorial calendar. I thought something fun and playful for little girls to wear would be a sweet idea. Then the idea started to grow. Every mom knows that kids love playing dress up. Mine come up with some of the most creative ensembles that have me in tears from laughter. Why not add some Saint Patrick’s Day fun to their dress up trunk. That’s exactly what these DIY glittery shamrock fairy dress up accessories do.

DIY Shamrock Fairy Dress Up Accessories Materials

Gold Plastic Headband (This needs to have openings, not a solid one)
Gold Wire
Glittery Foam Shamrocks
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Set of Green Fairy Wings
Gold Shamrock Coins
Ink Pen (or other comparable round stick)
Scissors

Step 1

Start but cutting 2 lengths of gold wire roughly 9 inches long each.

Step 2

Next, wrap one piece of wire around your ink pen to form a spring.

Step 3

Slide the spring off of the pen and repeat with your second piece of wire.

Step 4

Then wrap the ends of each spring around your headband.

Tip:

If you have to use a solid headband, add some hot glue to the wrapped wire to help hold it in place more securely.

Step 5

Now, bend the top coil on each spring so that is lies flat as pictured above.

Step 6

Add a dab of hot glue to the stem of a foam shamrock and press the flattened coil into it.

Step 7

Immediately cover with a second foam shamrock and press firmly together.

Step 8

Now secure the rest of the shamrock edges together with hot glue.

Step 9

Repeat steps 6 through 8 with the second spring on your headband.

Step 10

Set your headband to the side and pull out your fairy wings.

Step 11

Start by wrapping the center of your fairy wings in gold wire.

Step 12

Next, outline each of the wings with a single strand of gold wire, securing every few inches with hot glue.

Tips:

Do this on a non-stick surface otherwise you’ll end up gluing your wings to the table.

Wrap each part of the wing separately. For example: one length of gold wire for the top right wing and a second length of wire for the bottom right wing.

Step 13

Lastly, attach some gold coins to the wings as decoration. I attached one to each glittery swirl as well as a second coin to the bottom wings. This makes it easier to keep them symmetrical.

That’s it! Now your little one can do what she does best: play pretend. These DIY glittery shamrock fairy dress up accessories are so much fun, I totally want to make a second set for me to wear. We might add a rainbow wand, too. What do you think? Don’t worry about this craft breaking the bank either. Everything except the gold wire came from the Dollar Tree and even that you can get there if you don’t have any on hand. Don’t you love that store when it comes to the holidays? This awesome project only cost $4 to make ($5 if you need wire, too). Worth it!
