This shimmery DIY patriotic wreath is so simple to and perfect to display on your door!” username=”diyadulation”] We are back this month with another awesome Thrift Store Upcycle Challenge! I knew I wanted to make some sort of patriotic craft but it wasn’t until I was at the thrift store that the idea solidified. If you’ve ever seen those garland wreaths at your local thrift store and thought, “Ugh, that’s hideous” and moved on: Don’t! The garland may be faded and ratty, but that plastic base underneath is pure gold for creating your own gorgeous wreath that actually fits your style. What’s even better is that the Dollar Tree always has fun and festive garland for a buck so you can grab the one you want cheaply. It’s like the perfect marriage of stylish and budget-friendly decor! I wanted to take this project a step further without adding a bunch of extra work for myself. That’s why I picked up a super fun glittery fireworks bow. It adds that extra bit of flair without adding a ton of time and work to the project, a dream for busy moms like us.   Patriotic Garland Wreath on Door

Step 1

First, remove the existing garland on your thrift store wreath so that you have an empty wreath base to work with.

Step 2

Next, take your red, white, and blue garland out of the packaging and start attaching it to the wreath base. Wrap one end of garland around a hook on the edge of the wreath base as pictured.   Red White and Blue Garland Wrapped on Section of Plastic Wreath Base

Step 3

Then take your garland down the front of your wreath base and wrap it around the inside hook across from the top hook you wrapped around.

Step 4

Take the garland back up and wrap around the next hook on the edge of the wreath base and continue wrapping back and forth to cover your wreath.

Step 5

After one garland runs out, attach another garland around the same hook where the previous one ran out. Again, continue wrapping on your wreath hooks back and forth.     Garland Wrapped Plastic Wreath Base with Small Section Empty Patriotic Garland Wreath

Step 6

Continue wrapping the garland, adding more as needed, until your entire wreath is covered with garland.     Glittery Fireworks Bow with Tag

Step 7

Once your wreath is wrapped, remove the packaging from your bow but save the twist tie from the packaging.

Step 8

Use the twist tie to attach your bow to the wreath by poking the twist tie ends through the wreath and secure them in the back.     Glittery Foam Stars on Wreath

Step 9

Lastly, glue on the glittery foam stars in sets of 3 at random on your wreath. I used one large star and 2 smaller stars in each group.     patriotic garland wreath with bow and stars on door with text overlay - Shimmery Upcycled DIY Patriotic Wreath Can you believe how freaking easy this shimmery DIY patriotic wreath is to make? Pink and Green Butterfly Votive Holder Gifts on Pink and Green Background

Glass votive holders at the thrift store are a dime a dozen… okay, maybe more like 25 cents each but still. You know what I mean. I can’t count the number of times I’ve strolled past them without a thought. This time I wanted to challenge myself to spend the smallest amount on my project so I grabbed 3 of these for only 75 cents.

I knew I wanted to do something spring-y but wasn’t quite sure what. Then I saw these butterfly stencil masks in my stash and thought they were perfect for spring. Boom! I was ready to start crafting.

It wasn’t until after they were made that I realized what a great gift they make and since we’re in the process of decluttering right now, why not make something beautiful to give away. Filled with candy and an electronic candle, these are the perfect easy gift for Mother’s Day, teacher appreciation gifts, and more!

Step 1

First, clean your glass votive holders.

Step 2

Next, place your stencils on a votive holder. I also recommend taping off the edges because it makes it easier to clean edges.

Step 3

After your stencils and tape are in place, fill in the unmasked area with one paint color. Mine needed a couple of back-to-back coats to achieve the bright, vibrant color.

Step 4

Before the paint dries, carefully pull off your tape.

Step 5

Then carefully pull off your stencil masks. This is easier with a pair of slanted tweezers. If you use your fingers, the paint is more likely to smear.

Step 6

After the tape and stencil masks are removed, let the paint dry completely.

Step 7

Repeat steps 2 through 6 for each votive holder. You can use the same stencil masks and color or you can change it up like I did.

Step 8

Once the paint is dry, place your votive holders on a sheet pan and place the pan in a cold oven.

Step 9

Set your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 30 minutes to set the paint.

Step 10

After 30 minutes, turn the oven off but do not remove the votive holders. Allow them to cool down slowly in the oven.

How to Make the DIY Butterfly Votive Holders Gift

Once your votive holders are made, you can totally keep them for yourself to use as decor. However, they also make a great gift (Mother’s Day is around the corner). Oh, and did I mention that they’re super easy to make?!

Step 1

Step 2

Set an electric tealight candle on top of the candy. You want it to stick up above the top edge of the votive holder.

Easter with my in-laws is a large, casual affair. When we eat, it’s buffet style and you find a seat where you can. It’s nice but it can be equally nice to have a properly set table with a family style meal. My family is much smaller so we can all fit at one table during the holidays.

The really great part is that I get the best of both worlds. These Easter napkin rings are great for my smaller family gathering. They’re exactly what you need to dress up your Easter table too. Don’t worry, though. They are super easy to make, not-to-mention fast.

Step 1

First, cut a length of craft ribbon that is 16-24 inches depending on the width of your ribbon. (The thinner your ribbon, the longer the length needs to be.)

Step 2

Next, place a small dot of hot glue on the inside of your shower ring at the place where it snaps closed.

Step 3

Now press the end of your length of ribbon into the glue and begin wrapping the ribbon around the shower curtain ring.

Step 9

Then, flip your burlap piece over so that the glued edges are on the bottom and glue 2 glittered eggs to it as pictured.

Step 10

Next, glue one of your leaves to the burlap so that the stem rests between the 2 eggs. (See the picture above step 9 for reference.)

Step 11

Lastly, attach a small flower to your burlap with hot glue.

Step 12

Again, repeat steps 6-11 until you have the number of burlap adornments needed to match your wrapped rings.
