Technically our family is still celebrating Christmas on New Years Eve. We have a tradition of celebrating with extended family on that day. It is also a fun-filled evening of board games and delicious food. Unfortunately, as I get older, it’s hard for me to make it all the way to midnight.
That means losing out on cherished adult game time or starting earlier in the evening. The kiddos can feel left out of the fun, especially the youngest 2 who are unable to read yet. To help them feel included and have their own fun tradition this year, I wanted to make these disco New Years Eve countdown activity bags. Now they have a cool new surprise to look forward to each hour of the night.
I recommend filling them activities and games to keep the kiddos entertained while you take a much-deserved break. I got most of ours at the Dollar Tree so it’s totally budget-friendly too. Score!

Alternative Clock Countdown Bags
If you are unable to find the holographic star cutout treat bags, there is an alternative option. This version takes a few minutes longer to make but it’s the perfect option if you have regular treat bags without a cutout.
Step 1
First, start by writing a 12, 3, 6, and 9 on the 4 edges of your sticky note (like a clock).
Step 2
Next, fill in the rest of the numbers for the clock.
Step 3
Lastly, add the hands of the clock. Be sure to change them to represent the different hours for each bag.
Step 4
Now place a clock on each treat bag.
Step 5
Finish with filling the bags with their corresponding treats and gifts.
Will the kids on winter break, they’ve already seen these disco New Years Eve countdown activity bags and are so excited to see what’s inside. The anticipation is totally fun for mom too. Seeing your kiddos light up with each new surprise is something sweet to look forward to this holiday. How else do you celebrate New Years Eve with your family? I’d love to hear in the comments!
