10 Tips to Fit In Fitness in Daily Life

Brushing Your Teeth

There are a number of easy exercises you can do while you brush your teeth. 2 of my favorite ones are wall sits and stepping in place.

While this won’t make you thin overnight, it will add 2 more minutes of activity to your day.

During Commercials

Doing some sort of exercise during commercial breaks of your favorite shows is an excellent way to fit in fitness. Jumping jacks and crunches are popular for this but I prefer plank.

It is an excellent core workout that also doesn’t make a lot of noise (in case you watch TV after the kiddos go to bed like me). If you are more of a Netflix binge-watcher, change it up by doing 2 minutes of activity between episodes.

Shopping

Park your car in the very back of the lot when you go shopping or run errands. This is a great way to get in extra steps.

If you want to up the ante, don’t get a cart in the parking lot. Instead carry your kids from the car to the door. Trust me that will turn your shopping trip into a full-blown workout.

Making Dinner

Let’s face it: even with careful meal planning moms still spend of good chunk of our lives in the kitchen. The next time you’re stuck by the stove or hovering over the sink, step in place. It will help keep you energy level up and add some movement to your day.

Dance

Dance a lot. Like, dance any chance you get to shake your body.

We dance down the hallway to naptime. I dance in the shower (although I don’t necessarily recommend this as I have fallen a few times… I just can help it).

We hold random dance parties in the living room. Find times every day to dance even if it is only for a moment.

Bus Stops

Walk with your kid to the bus top and meet them at it after school. Even if the bus stop is only at the end of your driveway those are still extra steps.

Bonus Tip:

Take the Steps

If you have a family room in your basement, hang out there. Then use the stairs to go to the restroom or get a drink of water.

Even if you have a bathroom on the same level, take the steps to another one. It only takes an extra 2 minutes of your time and your body will thank you for it.

Toss Your Kids

Tossing your kids in the air is another excellent workout. Okay, so you don’t have to actually toss them in the air if that makes you nervous.

Instead, try mimicking the motion but never letting go. The kids will still love it and you’ll be getting a varied shoulder press workout.

Get on the Park Equipment

You can find tons of “playground workouts” on Pinterest but it doesn’t have to be that complicated. Your kids love it when you push them on the swings and it’s good for you, too.

Spinning them on a merry-go-round is another easy way to fit in fitness. If you’re feeling ambitious, run with it and jump on like you did as a kid.

Lastly, don’t forget to climb on the monkey bars. Show your kids how it’s done or lift them up and let them give it try.

Vacuum Twice a Day

Vacuuming is one of my favorite active chores to get up and moving. Instead of only doing this chore once a day, do it twice each day.

That’s more steps each day and it has the added bonus of keeping your house extra clean.

Choose one of these ideas or utilize all 10 tips to fit in fitness daily. You will find that the more your move each day, the more you will want to move. Want one more easy idea to get active? Play outside with your kids.

They will love getting to run off that extra energy and will remember you making play with them a priority. My kids love being pushed around the yard in their Cozy Coupe. It’s an excellent workout for me that they have a blast with.

January Goals Evaluation

Business Goals

Start Outlining Products – Success

  • Inspiration has hit at the craziest times for these so I’ve started carrying around a notebook to jot stuff down immediately.

Affiliate Income – Success

  • No, I didn’t earn thousands of dollars (yet). However, I did experiment and got some great ideas to move forward with. I did see an increase in income even though it was less than $100.

Build Twitter Following – Success

  • While I haven’t reached my goal of 5,000 followers yet, I did see an increase so it’s coming along.

Finance Goals

Save $100 – Fail

  • A crazy thing happened with our pay this month. We found out that our insurance hasn’t been withdrawn correctly for 6 months! This has resulted in a $400 difference in our pay each month (not exactly a small chunk of change). I am now in the middle of a budget re-haul to make saving a priority.

Grocery Freeze – Success

  • This was a little too successful. My grocery freeze inspired my mom to clean out her pantry and freezer. She then gave some of the items to me. A lot of it is baking supplies such as sea salt, flour, and etcetera. The kids are ecstatic because it also included items like boxed Mac-n-Cheese which I never buy.

Re-Read The Total Money Makeover – Success

  • I seriously love this book. It is always so inspiring. I can’t wait to rebuild our emergency fund and be debt-free (which is pretty much just student loans and a mortgage at this point). I’m also excited to start researching investing so that we’re ready to give it a try when we make that final debt payment.

Organization Goals

Finish Office – Fail

  • Holy cow do I own a lot of stuff! This move has inspired me to pare down my craft supplies. Lucky for you, this is going to mean an awesome spring cleaning giveaway in April because I’m going to pass it on to you!

Continue Purging – Success

  • The more stuff I get rid of the more I want to get rid of. That is why I’m choosing to purge craft supplies now in addition to everything else.

Self-Improvement Goals

Daily Routine – Fail

  • Remember the insurance thing from above? Yes, that craziness resulted in being off of my anti-depressants for 3 weeks. That has made a lot of things a struggle. Thankfully, we were able to get it worked out and I’m getting leveled off. Yay!

Move – Success

  • Admittedly, moving my office made this pretty easy. Every item is coming from the main floor to the basement so that is a lot of stairs each day.

Family Goals

Learn Something New Together – Success

  • We have started having weekly family meetings and one of the things we do during each one is learn something.

Try Out New Family Night Activities – Success

  • My oldest really loved our video game race night and the stop-motion video we made was a big hit as well.

February 2017 Goals

Business Goals

Continue Product Work

  • I want to set a firm timeline because right now I’m just dealing with this amorphous “end-of-the-year” deadline. That does not make a good or productive plan.

Finish Posts in Editorial Calendar

  • If I learned anything from not having my medicine in January it is that I want to be at least 3 months ahead on my site. I have every post mapped out through April and ordered lists for both what to write and what to make. I want all of it to be finished before the end of February.

Build Twitter Following to 5000

  • That is more than double what I have now so this is an ambitious goal. I am going to be working my little booty off to make this happen!

Finance Goals

Reorganize Finances

  • Since the $400 pay difference will be here for the foreseeable future, a financial restructure and re-evaluation is in order.

Save Something

  • Even if it is only $20, I will make saving money a priority.

Organization Goals

Finish Office

  • This will actually be completed within the next week. Purging items is going to help immensely.

Continue Purging

  • I am already in full spring cleaning mode. I want a light and clean home to fill with memories and not stuff.

Self-Improvement Goals

5,000 Steps Daily

  • I know that 10,000 is the recommended amount but I am currently logging around 2500 a day. My awesome Jawbone Up2 makes it so much easier to track this. I’ll tell you more about this awesome tool in a future post.

Make More Time for Friends

  • This is an area of my life that I am failing at miserably. I know that we are all in a stage of life that can make this difficult but it is important to me. I want to be better at making time for friends a priority.

Family Goals

Continue Family Meetings

  • After only 2 weeks this is already something that my kids look forward to each week. We sync calendars, learn something, have a treat, and more. Even my oldest has started improving at letting me know about school things that are coming up. This has been an area he has struggled with this year so I’m very happy that the family meetings are helping. I highly recommend starting these if you don’t have them already.

Regular Zoo Trips

  • This past year we haven’t used our zoo passes as much as we used to. It makes me sad because this is something our family loves to do. That is why I want these to become a priority for us.

You can be inspired and encouraged to create your future with your goals. Start with your February 2017 goals and start living a life you love!

I have to say that I am incredibly proud of January. Despite having some serious struggles without my medication, I still managed to accomplish most of my goals. That is why the Monthly Goal Setting Planner is such an important tool. It lets you plug in your goals and the things you need to do each day to achieve them. Without it, I know that January would have been a lot less productive. Now I’d love to hear about your February 2017 goals and how you rocked January! Let me know in the comments!

[bctt tweet=”Find the best karaoke in NKY with family-friendly options and adults-only ones! #karaoke” username=”diyadulation”]

I was recently inspired by Eventbrite to create a post about a local business that I love for winter activities (this is not a sponsored post). What a task! You know how much I love supporting local events from 5 Ways to Find Free Summer Activities.

These are the same ways I find winter events to attend with my family. In fact, a local park had an amazing winter event in December that we had a blast at despite the freezing temperatures.

Why it’s the Best Karaoke in Northern Kentucky

The Host

Roy Sharp, the host and owner, is amazing. His sound quality is unmatched because he personally adjusts the sound for each singer.

He will make sure that you sound your best each time you sing. Even more so, he is very friendly and supportive so don’t worry if you’re nervous.

The Sound

He also takes pride in his equipment because he cares about his show and the wonderful singers who attend it. He has invested his time and money to find the best mixer, digital programs, and wireless mics to make your experience awesome.

Not only is his equipment phenomenal but he knows how to use it meaning less technology delays and more fun.

He also has a huge selection of songs from Disney movies to heavy metal. No matter what style you sing, you will find something at his show.

The Show

The shows are fair. Any karaoke-er knows that a lot of local shows play by the “good ‘ole boys” systems. That means that the host will bump you down the list if the host’s friends or family members stop in to only sing for an hour. This doesn’t happen at Roy’s shows. He keeps a list of the singers as they come and consistently keeps that order.

Does that mean that if you come in late that you go to the bottom of a list of 40 singers? It absolutely does not. He works that fairly, too, by weaving in new singers between existing singers who have been at the show longer. This helps ensure that everyone who comes to sing gets their opportunity.

Family Friendly Option

Did you ever think you could find a family-friendly karaoke night that wasn’t on a cruise? Sharpsounds Karaoke has managed to do that too! On Wednesday and Thursday nights you can find him at the Green Lantern Café in Latonia, Kentucky.

If you haven’t been to this venue since they re-did it, you are missing out.

The restaurant is non-smoking, serves up delicious food, filled with the local games on the big screens, and, of course, karaoke.

Your kids can get in on the singing fun while you enjoy a family meal (until 10 pm EST). You also don’t have to worry about inappropriate songs coming on during dinner.

Roy won’t let other singers sing songs (such as “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails) during the hours that children are allowed in the café.

Adults Only Option

Update: This venue has since closed.

For an adults-only night out you can check out Sharpsounds Karaoke at Average Joe’s in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Found right off of interstate 71/75, it is the perfect option for a fun night of singing. In addition to the awesome karaoke show there is also a billiard table, video games, and an outdoor patio. The many options make it easier to find a place to sing that even your non-karaoke-ing friends will enjoy.

Winter Activities

There is one more awesome aspect to Sharpsounds Karaoke that truly makes it the best karaoke in Northern Kentucky and that is the free parties. Every year during the holidays there are Christmas parties, a New Year’s Eve celebration and countless other celebrations.

Each one of these is totally free to attend and will include freebies like food or favors. On New Year’s Eve you even get a free champagne toast at midnight, again absolutely for free. There is no cover charge or minimum purchase to be included in the fun.

Seriously, if you love to sing your heart out at karaoke you cannot beat Sharpsounds Karaoke. Once you go you’ll feel like family. Plus it doesn’t hurt that you can make a family night of it with the kiddos. Now that you know my favorite place to do karaoke, come back for tips to save money on girl’s night out. You’ll be ready to grab the girls and head out for a night on the town.
