DIY Sonic Screwdriver Earrings

One of the best things on the planet is when something awesomely nerdy is topped with some geeky frosting! That is exactly what is happening at the Renaissance Festival in my area next weekend. In addition to all of the fun excitement you can find every day at the RenFair they are also having a Time Travelers Weekend! No, we’re not talking the traditional fair maidens and brave knights. Time Travelers Weekend means sonic screwdrivers, time-traveling DeLoreans, and excellent adventures! To celebrate, I’m sharing how to make these DIY sonic screwdriver earrings to rock your time traveler style every day.

These are so fun and easy to make. Once you’re done, start planning your time-traveler cosplay with some of these fun and easy ideas:

Back to the Future

Doc: Tease your hair so that it is wild-looking and spray it with white temporary dye. Next, throw on a white lab coat and Ta-Da! You’re ready to build a Flux Capacitor.

Marty: If there was ever a time to pull out a retro puffer vest, this is it. Rock some comfy jeans and carry a skateboard to complete the look.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Bill: Baggy jeans rolled up at the bottom and a cutoff white t-shirt make this cosplay one of the easiest in history. The best way to rock it is to have a friend dress up like Ted with you.

Ted: This one has a lot of layers but would still let you cosplay in comfort. Put on a pair of white sweatpants and push them up to the knees. Wear a pair of black shorts over them. Next, add a t-shirt and a black vest. Lastly, tie a red jacket around your waist to complete the ensemble.

Doctor Who

There are seriously so many options here that I’m not even going to try to list them all. I will, however, leave you with some photos of my friend and I rocking some Dr. Who inspired costumes, though. (They aren’t great photos but at least they’re fun!)

A stick of eyeliner is all you need to be a Silence victim. We totally rocked that look at the zoo last year. As for the Tenth Doctor, grab you some cheap 3-D glasses and a sonic screwdriver to take your outfit over the top. (P.S. My sonic screwdriver is totally a pen as well. Possibly my favorite writing utensil of all time.) If you are looking for some more nerdy Whovian crafts, you can find them littered all over DIY Adulation like this “Hello Sweetie” card or these “Bigger on the Inside” boxers!

Easy Bacon and Broccoli Alfredo

Being a mom doesn’t come with sick days. When you are feeling under the weather you can let the housework slide and the errands go. Of course, that means more on your to-do list once you’re back on your feet. One task you can’t let slide is feeding your family. (Well, you can but the law frowns upon that kind of thing.) Freezer meals like these homemade chicken nuggets and pot pie minis make dinner easier. This goes double for when you’re sick. Unfortunately life sometimes catches you with your freezer meal pants down. When that happens, this easy bacon and broccoli Alfredo is the next best thing.

Last Saturday I went shopping for tons of groceries. I was so on my game and these groceries will last us until October save for items such as milk and eggs. How is that possible? They will last that long because each and every item is a part of a specific meal. Most of these babies will be Crockpot and freezer meals and Monday was supposed to be my day for batch cooking. Then, “Wham!” I got slammed with some annoying virus that isn’t severe enough to warrant a trip to the doctor but bad enough that every ounce of energy I have is gone. Now, I have freezers full of unprepared food and no energy to do anything with it.

Every mom who has gotten sick at the worst opportune time understands where I’m coming from. Just cutting up fruit (since it is perishable) to make chips drained me. My poor family has been living on leftovers while I suck on saltines. The leftovers are dwindling and I’m still not feeling great so I’m whipping up this easy bacon and broccoli Alfredo. It comes together fast and it’s healthier than ordering pizza. The best part is that my kids love it!

Ingredients

Step 1

In a large pot, cook your pasta according to package directions. Once it is done, strain it and set to the side.

Step 2

Pour your sauce into the same large pot and heat over medium heat. Stir your sauce occasionally.

Step 3

While your sauce is heating, microwave your broccoli according to package directions.

Step 4

Once your broccoli is finished, strain it. Next, add it and your package of bacon crumbles to the sauce. Stir well and remove from heat.

Step 5

Add your pasta to the sauce mixture and toss until coated.

Optional:

Garnish with parmesan cheese and fresh tomato slices.

See? I told you it was super easy. Don’t forget to check out these freezer-friendly breakfast burritos for fast meals on busy mornings before you go. You can also find the recipe for homemade Alfredo sauce. It can be frozen to make this recipe just as easy for you in the future. (You simply heat the sauce at a lower heat until defrosted and then continue with the recipe as listed.)
