Easy Peel Off DIY Nail Polish for Kids

08.07.2019 by Marie // Leave a Comment

Playing with makeup is a blast for kids, especially little girls. Unfortunately, the ingredients can be unsafe especially if your little one still puts everything in her mouth. Now you can let her play without the worry with this easy peel off DIY nail polish for kids. It’s super simple to make and totally inexpensive too.

Let your little one express her creative style without fear with this peel off DIY nail polish for kids. It’s a safe and fun way to let her explore with makeup! Click To Tweet

Although all of my kids like painting their nails, my daughter has an uncanny knack for finding my nail polish no matter where I store it. Our bedroom carpet looks like a Pollock painting more than it does a floor at this point. Since hiding the polish wasn’t helping, I decided to take a different route.

I made her nail polish that is just for her and is washable so it’s way easier to clean up spills. Now she can paint her little fingers to her heart’s content and I don’t have to worry. It’s also kept her from sniffing out mine to play with. Pretty much a win-win, if you ask me.

This nail polish also peels off so no need for acetone remover which can be hard on tiny nails. She can paint and design, let it dry, pull it off, and do it all over again!

DIY Nail Polish Materials

  • Used Nail Polish Bottle
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • White Liquid Elmer’s Glue
  • Pressed Powder Eye Shadow
  • Clear Liquid Dish Soap
  • Small Plastic Bowl
  • Kids Paint Brush for Mixing
  • Small Funnel

Step 1

First, clean your old nail polish bottle. Pour out any polish remaining in the bottle then fill with nail polish remover and shake vigorously. Pour out the solution and repeat until the bottle is empty.

Tip:

  • If you have trouble getting all of the polish out, drop a small sinker into the bottle with the nail polish remover. This will help scrape the excess out for you.

Step 2

Next, make sure the brush for the bottle is clean. Use your fingers to massage nail polish remover throughout the bristles until they are clean.

Step 3 (Optional)

Remove the labels from your nail polish bottle.

Step 4

Set your bottle and brush to the side to dry.

Glue in Small Plastic Bowl

Step 5

Then add 2 tablespoons of white liquid glue to your small plastic bowl.

Step 6

Mix in 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap.

Purple Eye Shadow and Glue in Small Plastic Bowl

Step 7

Next, crumble the eye shadow into the glue and soap mixture. You want to crumble it into powder so it is as small as possible. Large clumps are harder to break down during mixing.

Step 8

Lastly, mix the powder eye shadow into the glue and soap until well combined. Make sure that there are no large clumps of shadow in the mixture.

Small funnel in nail polish bottle

Step 9

Now place your funnel in the dry nail polish bottle and carefully full the bottle with your mixture. Stop below the spout of the bottle to allow space for the brush when you put the lid on.

Step 10

Finally, screw on the cap and use as normal nail polish.

No more trips to the store for play dough! Make your own budget friendly glittery no cook homemade play dough with ingredients you already have on hand! Click To Tweet

My kiddos love playing with play dough. Sometimes they even want to keep their creations sitting out to air dry then display in their rooms. This means we go through a lot of play dough and it gets expensive.

Finally, I decided enough is enough. It was time to create a budget friendly homemade version and that’s exactly what I did. Of course, I had to make it even better so let’s make it sparkle! The end result is this awesome glittery no cook homemade play dough that is super easy to make and a blast to play with. Even better, I had all of the ingredients on hand so it was totally free too. Definitely a mom win!

Glittery Play Dough Creations next to Balls of Play Dough

Glittery No Cook Homemade Play Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • Loose Glitter in Multiple Colors
  • Food Coloring
  • 8 tablespoons oil
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 cup salt

Glass Bowls with Water in Them

Step 1

First, add 1/2 cup of water to 4 separate bowls. I used glass soup bowls for mine.

Glass Bowls with Glitter and Water in Them

Step 2

Then add different colors of glitter and food coloring to each bowl and stir the mixture. Try to make your food coloring correspond with the glitter color.

Tip:

  • Both gel and liquid food coloring work for this. The pink one in the pictures was gel food coloring because I realized after the fact that I was out of the red liquid coloring.

Step 3

Next, add 2 tbsp of oil to each bowl and again, stir to combine.

Tip:

  • Don’t worry if your glitter starts to clump. It will separate as you knead your dough later.

Salt and Flour in Mixing Bowl

Step 4

Set your bowls aside and mix your flour and salt together in a separate mixing bowl.

Step 5

Then add 1 cup of your flour and salt mixture to each bowl of water and oil mixture.

Yellow Play Dough in Glass Bowl

Step 6

Mix your wet and dry ingredients together until a dough forms.

Yellow Play Dough on Floured Surface

Step 7

Lastly, knead the dough on a floured surface (use your remaining flour and salt mixture) until you achieve that play dough consistency.

Tip:

  • If your dough starts to get too stiff, knead in some additional water in half teaspoon increments.

Step 8

Store your homemade play dough in air tight bags or containers in between play. I used resealable plastic bags and squeezed the excess air out before sealing.

This glittery no cook homemade play dough turned out fantastic! It’s hard to capture the sparkle in the pictures but it is definitely pretty and glittery. Note that this makes a huge batch so your can easily separate it into multiple sets for your kiddos. That prevents fighting over colors and amounts which was a lifesaver for us. Anyone else so over the fighting between the kiddos this summer? Save yourself some trouble and separate your large batch of play dough before handing it over for them to play with.
