St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are always a blast! 10 years ago I went to my first party (that wasn’t in a bar) put on by some Irish friends of my in-laws. They went all out with food, drinks, and festivities and it was an absolute blast!

They also made THE BEST corned beef I have ever tasted, but that is another story for another post. Since then, I have thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to the holiday, including decorating for it.

Dollar Store St. Patrick’s Wreath Materials

Step 1

Cut the center out of your plastic plate using your box cutter. Be sure to do this on a cutting mat to protect your surface.

Step 2

Sand the inside edges so that there are no sharp edges. After sanding, wipe your plate down with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any excess dust.

Step 3

Glue your non-glittery shamrocks to your plate with hot glue. Try to space them evenly around your entire wreath.

Step 4

Fill in the gaps by hot gluing the remaining glittery shamrocks in those gaps.

Step 5

Next, glue one carnation to the right side of the wreath, slightly above the center, with the stem facing the top of the wreath.

Step 6

Glue your second carnation with the stem facing the stem of the first one. Once in place, you shouldn’t be able to see any of your stems.

Step 7

Glue 3 of your gold coins on the left side of your wreath directly across from your carnations.

Step 8

Glue 6 more of your gold coins to the bottom of your wreath in groups of three. Space the two groups roughly the width of your bowtie apart.

Step 9

Remove the elastic from your bow tie with scissors.

Step 10

Glue your bow tie to the bottom center of your wreath (between your groups of gold coins).

Step 11

Glue the ends of your ribbon to the back of the top of your wreath. Make sure the ribbon goes around the front of your wreath as well, before gluing the second end. See the picture for reference.

Step 12

Flip your wreath back over and tie a bow in the front with your hanging ribbon.

This wreath turned out so pretty! It is also crazy light (which is why you can get away with just hot gluing the ribbon hanger). The best part is that it only costs about $2.00 to make:

  • Plastic Plates (4/$1): $.25
  • Pack of Foam Shamrocks: $1.00
  • Carnations (4 flowers/$1): $.50
  • Gold Coins (30/$1): $.30
  • Total: $2.05

I already owned the ribbon but even if you have to buy it, that still makes this dollar store St. Patrick’s wreath totally inexpensive! Decorating for the holidays doesn’t have to cost a lot. You can be festive and frugal. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for even more ideas for dollar store St. Patrick’s décor!

This awesome Dr. Who inspired Cooler Than Bowties card is a fun and nerdy DIY to give to the Whovians in your life!

[bctt tweet=”Give this #DrWho inspired Cooler than Bowties card. No special occasion needed. #bowties”]

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a sucker for Dr. Who crafts. Actually, I’m a sucker for nerdy crafts in general. If it’s fun, cool, and nerdy then I’m in! With Valentine’s Day reminders all over the place you can’t help but think about greeting cards.

Come on, they’re in your face everywhere you look. That has put my nerdy brain into overdrive with a million new card ideas (including a Buffy the Vampire Slayer card that I’m beyond excited about and this Hello Sweetie card). For now, find out how to make this awesome Cooler Than Bowties card!

Cooler Than Bowties Card Materials

Let your friends and family know how cool they are with the Dr. Who inspired Cooler than Bowties card. No special occasion needed.

I have altered these sketches with a photo editor to darken the pencil lines so you can see what my sketches looked like. My actual sketches were in pencil so that I could erase and/or fix any mistakes.

Step 1

Sketch an outline of a fez on your cardstock that is the lighter shade of red. Sketch an outline of a bowtie on the darker red cardstock.

Let your friends and family know how cool they are with the Dr. Who inspired Cooler than Bowties card. No special occasion needed.

Step 2

Cut out your sketches. Cut out a small square of the lighter red and glue is to the center of the bowtie. Trim any edges necessary.

Step 3

Trace all of these lines with your black marker. Add 2 lines on either side of the center of the bowtie. See the picture for reference.

Step 4

Place a red brad in the center of the “top” of the fez. Glue your fez and bowtie to the front of the card as pictured below.

Step 5

Write “The Only Thing Cooler Than Bowties…” as you see in the picture.

Step 6

Cut out a rectangle (smaller than the size of your card) from your cardstock. Write (or print out) “… Is You!” in the center.

Step 7

Next, outline the edges of your rectangle as you did with the fez and bowtie.

Step 8

Glue your rectangle to the inside of your card. I chose to place mine at the angle but you don’t have to. Centering it looks great as well.

This specific card is being used as a Valentine but it totally works for birthdays, graduations, and more. Frankly, do you really need a reason to let your friends and family know how cool they are? I don’t think so. However, this seriously comes together so quickly you can totally whip it up in time for Valentine’s Day! (When you’re done, make sure you check out these additional fun and easy card tutorials.)
