Fandom is a funny thing. It makes grown men dress up with pointy ears and bows. Fandom can make hours of director commentaries endlessly fascinating. It can also bring people who otherwise have nothing in common together. It’s kind of beautiful. In case you didn’t know, I am a fangirl. My biggest is, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (so much so that I’m pretty sure I could hold my own in a trivia contest with Joss Whedon). However, I also love Sailor Moon, Harry Potter, and of course, Dr. Who. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I wanted to share with you this awesome Doctor Who inspired greeting card! It is so easy to make and is sure to please any Dr. Who fan in your life.

Materials
Step 1
Tear out a rectangular section of yellow cardstock in a size slightly smaller than your card. You want to tear it and not cut it so that you get the messy edges.
Step 2
Next, tear out a small section near the bottom, right corner. (See the picture above for reference.)
Step 3
Crumple up your paper and then smooth it back out. Repeat this multiple times to create the look of stone. Also, feel free to crumple is multiple ways as pictured.
Step 4
Place your yellow cardstock on a piece of scrap paper and begin stamping with the brown ink pad. Do not cover the whole thing. You want some of the yellow to show through.
Step 5
After you have finished stamping with brown, accent the raised areas of the paper with your gray ink. Feel free to go heavy with it because after you are finished stamping, you need to blend the ink using your finger.
Step 6
Carefully, using the corner of your black ink pad, darken the edges and crevices of your paper. Again, once you finish stamping, blend the ink with your finger.
Step 7
Stamp over the entire piece of paper with your brown ink. Blend the ink with your finger as needed.
Step 8
To finish off the ancient stone look, highlight again with the gray ink as pictured. Next, add in some touches of yellow ink and blend.
Step 9
Because of the amount of ink on the paper, it is easier to first write your text using a ballpoint pen. I had to go over mine a few times to get it to work. Not only does this help the marker ink stick, it also gives the illusion that the text is carved into the stone.
Step 10
Next, trace over your writing with a black marker. Again, you may need to go over the words multiple times to achieve the desired look.
Step 11
Now that your rock face is complete, attach it to the front of your card using the glue runner. It adds to the authentic look if you allow some of the edges to be raised so don’t worry about plastering the whole thing down extensively.
Step 12
Add your leaves to the front of the card, again using your glue runner. I just pulled leaves off of floral stems leftover from another project but feel free to purchase some jungle-looking leaves if you feel the desire to.
Step 13
Once your leaves are in place, take some of your yellow paper scraps and make a small, paper mushroom. To make it, you need a half circle and a rectangle. The bottom of the half circle should be uneven so tear it instead of cutting it with scissors. Attach the cap to the stem using your glue runner.
Step 14
Stamp over you entire mushroom with you brown ink, stamping the edges heavier. Then cover the stem with your gray ink. Attach the mushroom to the front of your card with your glue runner.
Step 15 (Optional)
Because this particular card was for an anniversary, I hand wrote “Happy Anniversary” in the style of the ancient script on the rock face. While this is not a necessary step (especially if this is for Valentine’s Day) I wanted to include it so that you could copy the letters if you needed.
There you go! Now you have an awesome Doctor Who inspired greeting card that will make the Whovian in your life ecstatic. This beats any card you will find in the store and it will mean so much more. This card definitely won’t end up in the recycling bin in a few months, not to mention it’s super easy to make!
