This was so easy to make! I am crazy excited to surprise my husband with it this Father’s Day. You could also replace the picture with a handwritten note or drawing from your kiddos before gifting it. What are your thoughts? I’m seriously considering it. Easy DIY Glow Frisbee

Summer is right around the corner and I could not be more excited. Enjoying long days in the hot sun. No school or homework to worry about with the kids. During the summer you have the freedom for long days to turn into fun nights. With that in mind, I’m starting a new summer series devoted to fun glow-in-the-dark activities to enjoy with your family this summer. Come back every Wednesday now through July for a new glowing DIY. Since school hasn’t quite finished yet, we are starting with this series with an easy DIY glow Frisbee.

Summer is right around the corner. I’m starting a new summer series devoted to fun glow-in-the-dark activities. Let's start with this easy DIY glow Frisbee.

Step 1

Since outdoor toys tend to get so dirty (even when you store them inside when not in use) clean your Frisbee.

Step 2 (Optional)

We are using an old Frisbee that the grandparents gave us and it is a very dark green. I wanted to help it really reflect light so before turning it into a glow Frisbee I gave it a coat of fresh white paint. This step is completely optional and really depends on your Frisbee color anyway.

Tips:

  • If completing this step, wait for your paint to dry before moving on.
  • Your Frisbee may need 2 coats on either side. Mine did because it was such a dark color.

Step 3

Paint a generous coat of glow paint on the top of your Frisbee.

Notes:

  • The paint I recommend in the materials is very thick. That is what lends to its superior glow but can also lead to the paint showing brush strokes. If that matters to you, I recommend putting on two coats.
  • Painting the underside of the Frisbee is not necessary.

Step 4

Next, allow your glow paint to dry completely.

Step 5

After your paint has dried, charge it to make sure that it is bright enough for your liking. If not, repeat steps 3 and 5 until it is.

Note:

  • Mine was plenty bright after one coat. The picture above was after one coat and in my living room in the middle of the afternoon. However you could still see the brush strokes. It still glows well for playing so I didn’t feel the need to add any additional coats.

Step 6

Once you have your desired glow and the paint has dried, spray your Frisbee with a coat of Acrylic Sealant to protect the glow paint from coming off.

Step 7

Before playing glow Frisbee, charge your painted Frisbee by setting it in the sun for an hour.

Note:

  • This step is not necessary if planning to start the game long before the sun sets. The game-play should naturally lead to charging in that instance.

That is all you need to make this easy DIY glow Frisbee. Later this month I’m sharing a fun DIY game to play with a glow Frisbee so come back to check that out! My kids already can’t wait for this weekend so we can toss a Frisbee in the dark. They don’t even know about the other game yet so that will be a fun surprise. Also, all of the glow games in this series are family-friendly. Take the opportunity this summer to get outside and connect with each other. There’s also the added bonus that exhausted kiddos make for easier bedtimes. See you next Wednesday for more DIY glow-in-the-dark fun!

DIY Mini Mug Candle

It is that awesome time of the month again when we get together to share our projects for the Monthly Thrift Store Upcycle Challenge! Since Mother’s Day is in a few weeks, I thought I’d help you out with a DIY gift idea. Surprise the mom in your life even if that mom is you! (No judgement here, momma.) This DIY mini mug candle is fast, easy, and frugal. Before we get the tutorial, I want to point out that I used recycled candle wax that I had collected over the years. My wax was already scented and colored so I didn’t have to add any of that. That is why you will see in the Materials that scented oil is optional.
