Easy and Colorful DIY Luau Invitations

This year I am helping to organize our class reunion.  Anyone who has done this can attest to the amount of work it takes (not to mention time, money, and energy).  One of the easiest parts for us was coming up with a theme.  Since we scheduled it for late summer we knew we wanted a more casual and fun theme so we decided on a luau BBQ. While we had done electronic invitations already, some of our classmates expressed that they would like to receive paper invitations to have as keepsakes.  I love this kind of stuff so I offered to design and make them.  Thankfully, a couple of the other girls helped me to assemble them since we needed so many! These DIY luau invitations are so easy to make and festive that they will be perfect for your summer party!

Luau Invitation Materials

**I have not included amounts in these because it will be dependent on the amount you need to make.  I can tell you that we needed 100 and I used roughly 7-8 leis, an entire pack of cardstock, and about 5 tape runners.

Step 1

Design and print out the information part of your invitations on regular printer paper, 2 to a page.

Step 2

Cut your cardstock in half, bisecting on the 11” side.  Also cut out your information sections.

Tip:

Step 3 (optional)

I chose to round the corners of both the information pieces and the cardstock pieces.  If you choose to do the same, you should do so before taping the pieces together.

Step 4

Tape the two pieces together for each invitation, centering the information on the cardstock.

Flowers from Hawaiian Lei

Step 5

Prepare your flowers by cutting apart your leis (I got 3pks at the dollar store).  Then slide the flowers off of the string.

Tip:

Note: These leis have come in so handy! I’ve used them on a ton of projects like this adorable girl’s purse!

Step 6

Assemble your flowers by placing two flowers of different colors together and securing them with a brad.

Tip:

Step 7

For each invitation, adhere a flower on the bottom left of your information with a mounting square.

Step 8

Lastly, cut out green palm trees using your Cricut then attach 1 palm tree on the right of each invitation with the tape runner.

That’s it!  I am so happy with how these turned out and again, they are just so simple to make. We were able to assemble around 60 of these in a couple of hours. If you are just having a personal bbq, these diy luau invitations should come together in minutes. If you are looking for more DIY fun you can find awesome creative summer ideas here!

Baseball Party with DIY Baseball Bat Guest Book

A lot of people love the great American pastime. If you’re one of them, you already know we’re talking about baseball. Personally, I’d rather watch football all day long, but that doesn’t change the fact baseball is a popular and celebrated sport. It also is a lot of fun to use as the theme for a party! It’s great for end of season team parties, Opening Day, and even birthday parties. Here are great tips to throw the perfect inexpensive baseball party including an awesome DIY baseball bat guest book!

We recently celebrated my son’s first birthday (so exciting)!  I decided that a vintage baseball theme would be adorable since we are in the throes of baseball season (heehee, see what I did there?).  This of course came as a shock to all of my friends and family because I’m not what you’d call an avid baseball fan, or even a casual fan for that matter. It was simply too cute and fit so perfectly so baseball it was. (As you can see from the pictures below, a cake decorator I am not.)

Baseball Themed Party Table with food

Decorative Table

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to have your entire home decorated for a party. Save yourself some money and some time by just having the food area decorated. This adds a festive air to your party that will impress your guests.

Baseball Plates on Orange Background

Tablecloths

These plastic babies aren’t just for covering your table! You can get them at the dollar store and use one to cover the table and one to hang on the wall as a backdrop. Plus, these are so light you can simply hang them with push pins.

Paper Plates

Another great and inexpensive decoration idea is to pick up a pack of paper plates and attach them to the wall with more push pins. I found these awesome baseball ones at a party store for a dollar! You can use them to fit any theme you’re having if baseball’s not your thing.

Treat stands loaded with cupcakes and sweets on party table

Reuse

Don’t underestimate reusing old decor. These cupcake stands were actually purchased on clearance after Independence Day for my husband’s welcome home party after his second tour. The red, white, and blue also worked for the baseball theme. Get even more space by placing some of those paper plates you bought on top (see in the picture above). These are great for holding chips and crackers.

Jars

Empty jars make great serveware as well. We served suckers and sugar tubes in ours but these are great for cutlery, straws, and more.

Snacks and buns on table

Snacks

A baseball party may be the easiest meal you ever plan. What screams baseball more than hamburgers and hotdogs? These are such a cheap and easy food idea. Of course, you’d be remiss if you didn’t include the Cracker Jacks! Bonus: the kids will get baseball stickers in their treats.

Baseball Cake on Cake Plate

Cake

A cake stand is so useful for displaying the birthday cake! It should be centered on your table to show it off to your guests.

Round Baseball Cake with H on it

It may not look beautiful but a baseball cake is super easy to make. All you need is a round cake pan (or you can buy a ball one like I did), white icing, and a red icing writer.

  1. Bake your cake.
  2. Allow to cool completely and then cover with your white icing.
  3. Next, draw the threads with your red icing. That’s it!

Baseball Party Food on Table

Extra Decor

If you have them laying around, use baseballs as part of the tablescape. You can also go to a used sports store and purchase a few for about a dollar each. (This is what I did.)

Small Bat Next to Hat and Ball

In addition to the rest of the party items above, I made this awesome wooden baseball bat guest book.  This was my favorite party idea and I’m super excited to share it with you.  The best part is that for about $2 you can create your own keepsake for your baseball party. If you are having a party for your kid’s team, have all the team members sign it and give it to the coach as a gift. Or, if it’s a birthday party like ours, have your guests sign it and hang it on your child’s wall to display.

Now you have a beautiful keepsake that you can hang on the wall of your little one’s room or a meaningful gift to give coach for all the hard work. As for my little one, he enjoyed every bit of it (including the cake). If you want more ideas like this follow our parties board on pinterest!

DIY Unique Noah’s Ark Kids Activity

Many children know the story of Noah and the Ark.  They know about the animals and the rainbow.  From this story they learn the importance of righteousness and about the power and love of God.  However, there is another important lesson children can learn from this story that often gets overlooked.  This unique Noah’s Ark kids activity teaches the importance of holding to your beliefs through time and opposition.

Building the ark was a long and labor-intensive task.  He didn’t complete the ark overnight.  The Biblical text actually suggests that it in fact took many years to finish building the ark (when you take into account that Noah was 500 when he had his sons, 600 when the flood came, and that his sons were married but had not yet had children).

Genesis 6:9

“…Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.”

Genesis 6:15

“This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.”

Use this as a jumping point with your kids.  Next, check out this free printable question list to help direct the rest of the lesson.

Last, I always like to end any lesson with an element of fun.  For this one we ended with this super fun ark-building competition!

Noah's Ark Lesson Materials

Noah’s ARk Kids activity Materials

Step 1

Using the tape and cardboard, have kids build their own arks.

Tip:

Step 2

Then fill your container close to the top with water.

Tip:

Step 3

Next, have children place their arks in the water and begin adding plastic animals to each ark one at a time.

Step 4

Continue adding animals to each until only one ark is left floating to complete the competition.  The last one floating is the winner!

Tip:

This is such a fun activity to enjoy on a hot day! It also helps keep your kids growing in their faith and understanding of the Bible. Families that build their faith together grow stronger in all areas of life. Enjoy the little things together.
