Dyed Cotton Balls on Paper Towels

Step 5

After your cotton balls have soaked overnight pull them out and place them on some paper towels to dry. This can take a few days to complete.

Fluffed Up Dyed Cotton Ball

Step 6

Once your cotton balls have dried, pull them apart so that they are a fluffy ball.

Paper Cone Next to Blue Paper

Step 7

Next, roll your cardstock into a cone and secure it with glue. Hot glue works quickest for this but you can use regular liquid white glue. If using liquid glue, allow it to dry before moving on.

Trimmed Paper Cone

Step 8

Then trim any excess paper so that your cone is even.

Cut Ribbon Next to Paper Cone and Pink Cotton Ball

Step 9

Now cut a length of ribbon that is long enough to become a hanger for your ornament.

Ribbon Glued to Inside of Paper Cone

Step 10

Next, glue one end of the ribbon to the top of the open part of your paper cone.

Ribbon on Paper Cone next to Dyed Cotton Ball

Step 11

Continue attaching your ribbon by gluing the remaining end on the opposite side of your open paper cone.

Step 12

Lastly, glue your pulled cotton ball onto the open part of the cone. Be sure that your ribbon hanger goes around the cotton ball so that you can still hang it.

Step 13

Allow the glue to dry completely, then hang on your tree and enjoy!

Thankful Spirit

I noticed that my kiddos (4, 6, and 9) were getting super spoiled. They are so concerned about what they are getting for Christmas instead of excited about giving to others, spending time with family, and enjoying the simple things in life.

I wanted to shift the focus but wasn’t entirely sure how. Then I remembered the tradition from the movie Angels in the Snow where they pass a candle around and say what they are thankful for. In fact, the entire movie focuses on making the most of what you have and being grateful for it.

This Christmas candle tradition is exactly what you need to shift the focus of your family and embrace an attitude of thankfulness, appreciation, and joy.

Christmas Candle Tradition

Once you have made your Christmas Candle, keep it on the mantle until Christmas Eve. That evening, take turns passing around the candle and saying what you are thankful for. We get so caught up on the gift giving and receiving (and the wrapping and preparing) that we forget how lucky we are. This tradition is the perfect way to practice thankfulness and remember how blessed we are.

It might take some practice but this new Christmas Eve tradition will shift your little ones focus to all that they have to be grateful for. Store it with your holiday decorations so that it is at your fingertips every year. Display it throughout the entire season as a beautiful and festive reminder of what this time of year is truly about.

It’s Day 1 and we are sharing DIY Wreath Ideas!

I seriously have a candy problem and I don’t even mean eating too much of it. Bath bombs that look like sweet treats, giant gummy bear lamps, even Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck It Ralph because of the candy in her hair all make me crazy excited.

This year that quirky love is totally your benefit because I’m channeling all of it into creating awesome candy-themed Christmas decor!

Glittery DIY Candy Wreath Materials

Wrapped Starburst Candy on Blue Mat

Unwrapped Starburst Candy Next to Foam Wreath Form

Step 1

First, remove your candies from their wrappers. I used 2.6 pounds but it didn’t cover the back of the wreath. If you want the entire wreath covered, I recommend unwrapping 5 or 6 pounds.

Candy Glued Around Edge of Foam Wreath Form

Step 2

Next, begin gluing your candies to your wreath starting on the outer edge.

Note:

Step 3

Continue gluing on candies working your way towards the front of your wreath.

Candy Covered Wreath

Step 4

Keep adding candies until the front and sides of your wreath are covered.

Step 5

Once your candies are on your wreath, place it on a protected surface and cover it with Mod Podge. I chose to spread mine with a 2” paint brush but you can use whatever you have on hand.

Close Up of Glitter on Candy Wreath

Step 6

Next, sprinkle glitter all over the Mod Podge and allow it to dry completely before moving on.

Step 7

After your Mod Podge is dry, seal your wreath with clear engine paint. Make sure you cover the entire wreath to properly seal it (and to protect it from animals if you hang it on your door).

Step 8

Again, let the engine paint dry before moving on.

Glitter Ribbon Tied on Candy Wreath

Step 9

Now cut a length of ribbon that is double the length that you want your wreath to hang and tie it in a circle around your wreath.

Excess Ends Turned into Bow

Step 10

Turn any excess ribbon from your knot into a bow. See the photo above for reference.

Step 11

Next, fold more ribbon from your spool in on itself 4-6 times as pictured.

Step 12

Cut the folded ribbon from your spool.

Step 13

Now, cinch the center of your folded ribbon and secure it with your clear twist tie.
