It’s Day 8 and we are sharing Christmas In A Jar Ideas!

The first time I made this, I used cosmetic grade glittery mica powder to color the candle. It’s looked awesome and shimmery… until it cooled. Then, all of the color was at the bottom. Boo.

I decided to skip the glitter and try a new version of dye. Thankfully, the wax dye worked so much better. If you’re new to making your own dyed candles, skip any of the powder colorant. It simply doesn’t work.

Since I had to lose the glitter in the candle itself, I decided to add it to the jar instead. With this DIY wintergreen cranberry wood wick candle, you get a beautiful and wonderfully scented candle AND you get your glitter fix too.

DIY Wintergreen Cranberry Wood Wick Candle Materials

16 oz. Glass Canning Jar with Lid
Wooden Candle Wicks
Soy Wax Flakes
Candle Making Pouring Pot
Pink Wax Dye (I used the Pink in this Kit)
Wintermint Fragrance Oil (Both of mine came from this set)
Cranberry Fragrance Oil
Chopsticks
Rubber Bands
Scissors
Bobunny Glitter Paste (I used Pink Punch but any pink variation will work)
Clear Nylon Thread
Snowflake Cookie Ornament

Step 1

First, put a 1 cup of water into a small cooking pot and heat it over medium-high heat.

Step 2

While your water starts to boil, add 4 cups of wax flakes into your pouring pot.

Step 3

Once your water is boiling, place your pouring pot into it and turn the heat down to medium.

Step 4

Continue heating your wax flakes until they are completely melted.

Step 5

After your wax flakes are melted, stir in a few flakes of your wax coloring at a time until you achieve your desired color.

Note:

When your wax cools the color will lighten a lot so it is better to mix in wax coloring until your color is 2-3 shades darker than you would like.

Step 6

Once you have colored your melted wax, stir in 10-12 drops of Wintergreen fragrance oil.

Step 7

Then stir in 5-8 drops of Cranberry fragrance oil.

Step 8

Keep your wax on the stove while you prep your jar starting with placing your wood wick inside the metal stabilizer.

Step 9

Next, slip a rubber band around the top of your jar.

Step 10

Then slide the top of your wood wick into your chopsticks.

Tip:

Don’t break your chopsticks apart before sliding the wick into them.

Step 11

Now, place you wick inside the jar resting the chopsticks on the lip. Then twist the edges of your rubber band and slip it on each side of the chopsticks one side at a time to secure them (and your wick) in place.

Step 12

Once your wick is secured in place, carefully pour your wax into your jar and set the candle aside to cool.

Step 13

After your candle has completely cooled, carefully remove the rubber band and chopsticks.

Step 14

Next, trim your wick so that it’s about 1/4 inch from the wax.

Step 15

Now, coat the outside of your jar with glitter paste. Use your finger to remove any excess along the top and bottom edges.

Step 16

Allow your glitter paste to dry before moving on.

Step 17

Lastly, tie one of your snowflake cookie ornaments around the lip of the jar with clear nylon thread.

Step 18

Before gifting, be sure to reattach the lid to your jar to protect the wick. Unlike regular wicks, wooden wicks can break off especially during the wrapping, transporting, and unwapping of gifts. The lid will keep the wooden wick from getting broken.

I wish digital screens could be scratch and sniff so you could smell how amazing this candle smells. It is festive and sweet to fill your (or your friends and family’s) home with holiday scents this season. It’s Day 7 and we are sharing Holiday Decor Ideas!

I swear with every awesome piece of candy decor I make, another 10 ideas pop in my head. By this time next year, I’ll have a full-on gingerbread house going on! These awesome lollipops are proof that candy seriously belongs everywhere.

Giant Outdoor Lollipop Window Decorations Materials

Newspaper
Tape
Scissors
Multi-Colored Tissue Paper
Cardboard Tube (This can be from inside a roll of wrapping paper or paper towels)
Rubber Bands
White Spray Paint and Primer in One
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Clear Cellophane Wrap
Twist Ties (One for Each Lollipop)
Glittery Pink Mesh Ribbon

Step 1

First, pull out 1 double sheet of newspaper (as in, 2 attached pages instead of a single insert).

Step 2

Next, roll up your sheet of newspaper into a tube starting at one corner and continuing to the opposite corner.

Step 3

Then secure the outside wrapped corner with a piece of tape.

Step 4

Pull out another sheet of newspaper and again wrap it starting at one corner overlapping the first newspaper tube you made.

Step 5

Continue adding length to your newspaper tube until it is at least 3 feet long.

Step 6

Once you have finished making your newspaper tube, wrap it with blue tissue paper. Secure the edge of the tissue paper with tape along the edge.

Step 7

Set your blue tube to the side and repeat steps 1-5 to create a second newspaper tube.

Step 8

Again, wrap your newspaper tube in tissue paper only using pink tissue paper this time.

Step 9

Now, pair the ends of both tubes together and secure them with a rubber band.

Step 10

Once the ends are secured, twist the tubes together as pictured.

Note:

Don’t worry if they seem loose at first. You can make them tighter once your have the general form made.

Step 11

If necessary, make your twist tighter. See the picture above for reference.

Step 12

Next, carefully wrap your twist into a swirl like a lollipop starting at the end secured with a rubber band.

Step 13

After you have wrapped your twist, secure the loose end with tape. You also want to secure other areas of the back with tape so that they do not come apart later. Set your swirl aside for now.

Step 14

Now, pull out your cardboard tube and cut it open longways.

Step 15

Start at one edge of the cut and roll it up tightly and secure it with tape.

Note:

The first one I made, I used rubber bands to secure it. They totally work but can make it difficult to get it covered with paint. Tape simply makes it easier and takes less time. Make sure that you use a piece that is big enough to wrap all of the way around the roll.

Step 16

Next, paint your cardboard roll with a white spray paint that is a primer and color in one. Allow it to dry completely before moving on.

Step 17

After your paint is dry, use hot glue to attach your cardboard tube to your tissue paper swirl. Be sure to hold it in place until the glue has cooled or it will separate.

Step 18 (Optional)

If you want to strengthen the bond between the stick and the “lollipop” add additional hot glue around the glued seam where they are attached.

Step 19

Then cut off a piece of clear cellophane big enough to cover your lollipop head and pull out a twist tie.

Step 20

Next, wrap your cellophane over the top of your lollipop and secure it around your stick with a twist tie.

Step 21

Now trim the excess cellophane at the bottom.

Step 22

Lastly, tie a bow around the twist tie on the cellophane with your glitter pink mesh ribbon.

Step 23

Repeat all of the above steps to make at least one additional lollipop in different colors.

How to Hang Your DIY Giant Outdoor Lollipop Window Decorations

The best way to hang these on your window is with outdoor Command hooks. Position them so that 2 of your lollipop sticks cross as pictured above.
You can also use packaging tape however it will not be weather proof and it can be difficult to get the tape off of the cellophane later.
