Plain apples have never been a favorite of mine. I love them in dishes but I’m not one to go, “You know what sounds good? A fresh apple.”

My youngest, on the other hand, loves them. Last week, he asked to have one as a snack. Normally I cut up his apples for him but he is getting old enough now that I figured he could just have one right out of the fruit bowl this time.

Then, he calls across the room for me because he thought part of his apple was bad and didn’t want to eat it. I go over to check it out for him and find that the “bad” part of the apple he was referring to was the freaking core!

That doesn’t make it any less delicious and, let’s be fair, serious homage to my southern roots. This is the perfect recipe to use up turkey leftovers and create a delicious comfort food that the whole family will absolutely love!
