Today’s post is full of nerdiness and girly glee. In fact, it wasn’t even originally on the editorial calendar. However when I learned last week that today is the 20^th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BTVS) the calendar simply had to be changed.

You know from the DIY Buffy Hush Box that it breaks my heart that there just aren’t a lot of Buffy DIY projects available. The same goes for free printables, unique merchandise, and more. This free printable inspirational Buffy art is remedying that today!

A Fangirl is Born

Before BTVS I didn’t understand the hardcore fandoms. The Star Wars buffs arguing over “who shot first”, the Trekkies who took the time to learn Klingon… it was baffling.

Then entered Buffy and I was instantly a fangirl. I have seen every DVD extra and commentary, I own all of the Watcher’s Guides, and I play 2 different Buffy RPG games.

I read all of the interviews, listen to the cd’s, and get super upset when people misquote facts about the show. Suddenly I am that crazy person that I didn’t used to understand and I love it!

Don’t Forget to Pin It!

Are you excited for spring, yet? The temperatures get warmer, the days start getting longer, and color begins to burst through the ground. Getting your home ready to welcome it is a great way to hurry spring along. Start by making these DIY birch bark bud vases. They will give you somewhere to display those first violets that pop up in your yard! Then keep reading to see the awesome surprise my friends and I have to finish getting your home spring-ready. DIY Birch Bark Bud Vases Materials

Small Glass Jars
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Birch Bark Shavings (I got mine at Hobby Lobby but found similar on Amazon)
Scissors

Step 1

Clean your jars including removing any labels. For my vases, I used an old baby food jar and a small pizza sauce jar.

Tip:

Try to get the label glue off as best as you can but don’t worry if you can’t get it completely off. You will be covering it anyway.

Step 2

Pull out your birch strips and have them ready to attach to your vases.

Step 3

Start attaching your birch strips around the bottom of your jar. Do this by adding a line of hot glue and firmly pressing a birch strip to it.

Step 4

Trim your birch strips so that there is a small overlap.

Step 5

Secure the birch overlap with a dab of hot glue.

Step 6

Continue covering your jar by repeating steps 3 through 5 until you have reached the top of your jar.

Tip:

Try to line up the birch seams on your vase as you go.

Step 7

Once you reach the top of your jar you have 2 options for finishing it:

If there is enough excess on the top birch strip add a second line of glue around the mouth of the jar and press the top of the strip firmly to it.

Alternatively, if the strip isn’t large enough for that, add an additional strip but trim it down to the top of the jar after gluing.

Step 8

Repeat steps 2 through 7 for your second jar.

These DIY birch bark bud vases are a super simple and sweet spring décor addition. As you can see, I chose to use fake flowers in mine. They can easily be used for fresh flowers too. When it is time to clean them, add a dab of soap and water to a baby bottle brush and carefully scrub the inside. Next, rinse out your brush and use the damp brush to rinse out the soap from your vase. Avoid getting the wood on the outside wet. Now are you ready to take your spring refresh to the next level? How excited are you for the live action Beauty and the Beast movie? The rose is such a quintessential part of the story and that’s why this DIY Beauty and the Beast enchanted rose cloche was the obvious choice for an awesome piece of home decor!

While Alice in Wonderland will always hold the number one spot in my heart, I do love Beauty and the Beast. Belle is nerdy and inquisitive but show true strength time and time again. This is why I am so excited that Beauty and the Beast is the focus of this month’s Movie Monday Challenge!

DIY Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Rose Cloche Materials

IKEA Cloche
Faux Rose
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Old Drawer Pull
Wire Cutters

Step 1

Remove all of the packaging from the cloche.

Step 2

Set the dome off to the side.

Step 3

Pull the leaves off of your rose.

Step 4

Cut your rose stem so that it is shorted than the dome of your cloche.

Note:

For my rose this was right under the highest bunch of leaves.

Step 5

Bend your rose into the shape of the rose from Beauty and the Beast. See the picture above if you need a refresher.

Step 6

Trim some of the petals off of your rose.

Tip:

You only need 2 petals for the remainder of the project. However, my rose was too full so I trimmed more petals than that off.

Step 7

Glue a small leaf to the stem of your rose as pictured.

Step 8

Attach the bottom of your rose stem to the center of your cloche base with hot glue.

Tips:

This takes a lot of glue so don’t be stingy with it.
Be sure to hold your stem upright while the glue cools.

You also need to continue adding glue until your rose is stabilized.

Step 9

After your glue is dried you may need to readjust your rose slightly. Check the cloche and make sure that the rose isn’t touching the sides. If it is, bend your stem slightly.

Step 10

Next, trim 2 of the rose petals you cut off so that the edges are rounded.

Step 11

Then use the trimmed petals to cover the glue at the base of the stem.

Step 12

Place the dome back on the base of the cloche.

Step 13

Cut the bottom of your drawer pull with the wire cutters so that it sits flush against the top of your dome.

Step 14

Lastly, glue your drawer pull to the top of your dome.

This is so elegant. If you want to up the magic you can add fairy lights to the inside but I love the classic and elegant look of simply the rose. A DIY Beauty and the Beast enchanted rose cloche is the perfect way to add some covert nerd décor to your home.
