Step 7

Now it is time to form the legs. At the end of one of your pipe cleaners (about 1 inch from the bottom) twist a second pipe cleaner.

Step 8

Snip off the excess of the twisted pipe cleaner so that you are left with 2 claw-like ends.

Step 9

Next, bend your pipe cleaner at the ‘knee’.

Step 12

Attach one triangle, point side down to the end of your pipe cleaner opposite the claws. Do this by twisting the open points around the end.

Step 13

Repeat step twelve on a fresh pipe cleaner.

Step 1

First, choose your four quotes. I used:

  1. “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”
  2. “Inconceivable.”
  3. “You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept.”
  4. “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Step 2

Next, sketch out how you want your words to appear on your canvas.

Step 3

Cover each canvas with a coat of black paint.

Tip:

  • Remember to cover the edges of the canvas as well.

Step 4

Allow the paint to dry.

Step 5

Sketch out the designs on the painted canvases with your colored pencil.

Tip:

  • If you need to erase you can but have some black paint on hand to cover any areas that require touch-ups.

Step 6

Go over your pencil lines with white paint. Allow the paint to dry.

Step 7 (Optional)

Paint a second coat of white over the areas that need it. This will be necessary for large areas (like the letters on the “Inconceivable” canvas).

This DIY Princess Bride subway art was so fun to make. Of course, getting to watch the movie while I made it didn’t hurt. I chose to go with black and white as a nod to the Dread Pirate Roberts’ outfit. If you want to match the color scheme you already have in your home, choose colors that do so. I still would recommend only 2 colors per canvas to create the bold look. Before you go, get your Princess Bride fix by checking out the other awesome recipes and tutorials from my friends. You might be inspired to host a movie night soon!

DIY Whalecome Baby Card

Celebrating a new life on the way is always such a blessing. Whether it is a couple’s first child or their fifth, it is still an occasion to celebrate. One of my favorite things to include with gifts, besides a DIY baby book, is handmade cards. The fun of cards for babies is that you can be super cutesy with them. No one has ever looked at anything baby-related and said, “Nope, that’s tacky. It’s just too adorable.” This DIY Whalecome Baby card is a perfect handmade card that fits the adorable baby motif!

This DIY Whalecome Baby card is so stinkin’ cute! You'll secretly hope more of your friends have some babies so you can make some more of them.

Materials

Step 1

Orient your card so that it opens up from the bottom.

Step 2

Add a strip of striped scrap paper to the right side of the front of your card. Trim any overhang.

Step 3

Ink your whale stamp and stamp on the bottom left of your card front.

Note:

  • I centered mine in the bottom side of the card not covered with paper.

Step 4

Next, cut out a small rectangle of your plain scrap paper.

Step 5

After you have cut your rectangle, round the corners and write “Whalecome Baby” in the center with the fine tip end of your marker.

Tip:

  • Add extra definition, as pictured, by tracing over “Whalecome” with the broad tip end of your marker.

Step 6

Next, chalk the edges of your rectangle with your chalk ink. (See the picture in step 5 for reference.)

Step 7

Attach your rectangle in the center of your scrap paper strip with adhesive foam squares.

Tip:

  • Put one square in each corner and 1 square in the center to make the rectangle more stable on the card.

Step 8

Finally, add gemstones to the top left of the card, centered above the stamped whale image.

Tip:

  • Start with the largest gemstone in the center first. Next, add your smaller gemstones on either side.

Step 9

Next move on to the inside of your card and stamp your sentiment with pigment ink.

Step 10

Immediately after stamping your sentiment, cover it with your holographic powder.

Step 11

Shake off excess powder and return to the container.

Tip:

  • I have this awesome little tray with a pluggable spout that makes it super easy to put the excess back into the container.

Step 12

Next, blast your powder-covered saying with your heat tool to emboss. Allow it to cool before closing your card.

Tip:

  • If the heat causes your card to curl a little, place it between some heavy books to flatten it back out.
