Merry Monday Link Party 126

Welcome back to the Merry Monday Link Party 126! We love seeing all of your awesome projects, recipes, and round-ups each week. It has been Halloween central around here (with the slight setback last week due to the kiddos getting sick) and there is more on the way. This week you’ll find tons of DIY awesomeness to make your Halloween party rock (or just throw a super festive family dinner). Before we get on to the party, I want to give you a few friendly reminders to make planning your to-do easier: Halloween is 2 weeks away, Thanksgiving (and subsequently, Black Friday) is 5 weeks away, and that means Christmas is only 10 weeks away! Whoa! So start planning out your time (and gifts) now to make the holidays a breeze later. Okay, now that we’ve got that squared away, let’s move on to the party!

Welcome to the Merry Monday Link Party #126!

You’ve been there: you’re at the store with your kid and she simply has to have that awesome item she’s just laid eyes on. Most of the time you say no and move on with her pouting until she sees the next thing she just Has. To. Have. Occasionally it is a small trinket, a 25¢ bangle for example, and you say yes. I did this at the thrift store the other day and purchased a cheap (and frankly kind of ugly) red bangle. Once we got home and were putting away items. I tried to hand her the new bangle. Guys, I kid  you not, she looked at me, crossed her arms, and said, “I don’t want that bracelet.” Ahh, such is life with a 4 year old. Instead of tossing it I decided to make it something beautiful to wear. That is exactly what this gold monogram bracelet is!

Materials

Step 1

Remove any price tags if you bought your bangle. Next, quickly clean it using soap and water.

Step 2

Cover your work surface with newspaper and paint your first coat of paint on your bangle. Remember to paint the inside of the bangle as well. Let dry.

Step 3

Paint a second coat of paint on your bangle. Again, allow it to dry.

Step 4 (Optional)

You may need a third coat of paint depending on the color of your bangle. This one was red so I opted for a 3rd coat.

Step 5

Cut a small piece of gold wire large enough to loosely wrap around your bangle twice.

Step 6

Place your charm on the piece of wire.

Step 7

Wrap your wire around the bangle twice with the overlapping ends on the inside.

Tips:

  • Make sure that the wrapped wire is loose enough for the charm to slide some.
  • Before you wrap your wire ensure correct way. You don’t want to put your bangle on and find that your letter is backwards.

Step 8 (Optional)

If the ends of your wire don’t quite overlap you will want to bend the tips towards the bangle. This will prevent them from poking you during wear.

Isn’t this such an improvement? The thrift bangle has been transformed from something I wouldn’t look twice at into something stunning. Plus you can’t beat the 25¢ price tag since I already had all of the other elements. One last tip before you check out the other great makeovers below: if your bangle is larger, like an inch wide or more, you will want to choose a larger charm. The delicate charm is perfect for this size but would be swallowed up by a larger bangle.

Step 1

Cover the edges of your mirror with painter’s tape.

Tip:

  • Don’t try to use 1 long strip of tape if your mirror is rounded. Instead use smaller strips and gradually work your way around the inside.

Step 15

Clean your mirror.

Note:

  • As you can see, mine got pretty messy. I went over it with a Clorox wipe to get the big areas of dried Mod Podge off. Next I went over the entire mirrored surface again with Windex.

I love how this turned out! Book décor is always a fantastic idea in my very nerdy opinion. This DIY literary mirror fits perfectly in my new Alice in Wonderland nook along with the Moss Bunny Wall Art. The pictures below are the best I could get of my nook at the end of our hallway (which aren’t great, but you can see me. Hi!). The pictures above are the ones for you to get a better look of the finished mirror. Before you go, check out the awesome projects from my friends below!
