Spaghetti is a staple in this house. It’s one of the few dinners that everyone can agree on which is a rarity with 3 kids. I also love that I can totally sneak vegetables in it (as long as they are pureed).
This delicious spaghetti sauce recipe is my go-to to save money and appease the little ones. If there are any leftovers, it also makes a great pizza sauce. (We must like light sauce on our noodles because there is always leftovers.) That’s great for busy moms like us, though, because it means 2 dinners from one.
Spaghetti Sauce Ingredients
- 1 Medium Onion, diced
- 3-4 Cloves of Garlic, minced
- 28 oz. Can Crushed Tomatoes
- 2 tbsp. Italian Seasoning
- 6 oz. Tomato Paste
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/ tsp Pepper
Step 1
First, prep your onion and garlic. Place in containers or on plates after you are done.
Step 2
Next, add a small amount of olive oil to the bottom of a pot over medium heat and add your onions in.
Step 3
Continue cooking over medium heat until your onions are translucent.
Step 4
Once your onions are translucent, add in your garlic and saute for about 2 minutes.
Step 5
Next, add in your crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning and stir to combine.
Step 6
Turn heat up to medium-high until your sauce starts to bubble.
Step 7
Then add in your tomato paste, salt, and pepper, stirring well.
Step 8
Simmer your sauce for another 10 minutes and serve over pasta or zoodles.
Storing:
You can store leftover sauce in the fridge for 4-5 days or your can freeze the leftovers for up to a month (especially if you have a Food Saver). Speaking of, this is a great recipe to double for freezing. Simply freeze half of it for another easy dinner night later in the month. Score!
This recipes teaches you how to make spaghetti sauce at home easily! It’s the perfect way to stock your freezer and make a hot meal for your family on a budget. This recipe is really heavy on the garlic so if your family aren’t big fans, you can cut back. Also, fresh garlic always tastes best but your can also use minced garlic from a jar. It may not be as strong, if that’s important to you. Next month I’ll show you how we easily make freezer garlic bread too. It pairs perfectly with this delicious dinner!
