You already know how much I adore tacos so it should come as no shock that I also love salsa. My favorite is the fresh mild salsa at Chipotle which is what inspired this delicious recipe. The freshness and crispness of that salsa… I could eat it with a spoon and this salsa is equally as good, if not better!
You’ll feel the same way about this salsa. In fact, after mixing it all together, you will sneak a taste immediately. Before you get to it, though, I want to warn you to scrubs your hands thoroughly after mixing up this deliciousness. The capsaicin from the jalepenos gets stuck under your nails if you don’t. One itchy eye later and you feel like your whole face is on fire. Don’t let that happen to you.
Fresh Homemade Salsa Ingredients
- 3 Large Roma Tomatoes
- 2 Fresh Jalepenos
- 1 Medium Red Onion
- Juice from 1 Lime
- 1/4 Cup Fresh Cilantro
- Optional – Pinch of Salt
First, dice up your tomatoes and place them in a bowl.
Next, cut the stem off of your jalepenos and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds from the jalepenos.
After your seeds are removed, finely dice your jalepenos and add them to the bowl with your tomatoes.
Then peel and dice your red onion. Add it to the mixture in the bowl.
Next, chop up your cilantro and add it to your bowl.
- This can be as finely chopped as you prefer. I prefer larger pieces of cilantro but it will be just as tasty with finely chopped cilantro too.
Top the mixture with your lime juice and a pinch of salt (if adding salt).
Lastly, stir the mixture with a rubber spatula until well-combined.
Serving and Storage
Serve with some crispy tortilla chips for an awesomely satisfying snack or appetizer. Store your salsa in glass jars in the fridge for up to 2 weeks (longer if you don’t mind it being a little mushy). I used pint sized jam jars but you could honestly use any jars you have on hand. You can also mix this up with some mashed avocados for some fresh guacamole in minutes. How awesome is that? Fresh deliciousness on hand when you want it.
Summer is on its way and this easy and fresh homemade salsa recipe is exactly what you need for those upcoming barbecues. Of course, it’s also the perfect healthy food staple to keep in your fridge for meals too. Top your tacos with it, add it to your fave quinoa bowl, or dip some corn chips in it for a satisfying snack. What’s even better is that it’s so easy to make you’ll never go back to the processed jar stuff again. Pretty awesome, right?

I’m a nerdy, crafty mom of three adorable little kids. I love writing and creating, but in my non-existent free time I also love karaoke, taking my kids to the zoo, and reading. I got my degree in Science (no idea how that happened) but I took every English class I could get my hands on because, yeah, I’m that girl.
