I’m a nerdy, crafty mom of three adorable little kids. I love writing and creating, but in my non-existent free time I also love karaoke, taking my kids to the zoo, and reading. Let kids have fun knocking towers over with this easy DIY pumpkin pillow fight game! It is perfect for entertaining kids all season long!

DIY Pumpkin Pillow Fight Game

Are you ready for an awesome fall game that entertains kids all season long, including Thanksgiving Day? That is exactly what this DIY pumpkin pillow fight game is. Let’s face it; there are a lot of aspects of the big family dinner at Thanksgiving that just aren’t fun for little ones. That goes double if your family is the one hosting this year. This game will not only make the kiddos excited, it will also keep them from being under your feet while you work in the kitchen.

Step 7

Now pull out your fabric and cut it into 6 rectangles that are 3 inches by 2 inches.

Tip:

  • If you are using an old tank top as I did, measure 3 inches up from the bottom and cut straight across. Then cut them into 2 inch pieces, leaving the sewn seams attached.

Step 8

Next, line the edges of 2 pieces up, right sides together, and pin along the edges.

Note:

  • Do this to all of your fabric pieces. This should give you 3 pinned “pillows”.

Step 9

Next, sew around each of your pillows leaving a small gap to turn the fabric right side out after sewing. Be sure to pull out the pins as you stitch your edges.

Step 10

Once all of your pillows are sewn, turn them right-side out.

Step 11

Then fill each pillow with Poly-Fil.

Step 12 (Optional)

Add 2-3 marbles inside each pillow.

Tips:

  • Adding the marbles makes it easier to knock down the pumpkins. If your kids are older, you can omit them to make the game more difficult.
  • You can also use beans or dry corn to add weight, I just prefer not to use food.

Step 14

Pull your pumpkins back out and spray both the front and back with acrylic sealant. Let it dry completely before playing.

Soak Up Summer Fun with 15 Backyard DIY Activities

Yesterday we celebrated my brother-in-law’s 30th birthday with a huge party full of food, family, and fun. His parents rented a venue right next to a local park and we spent the day running around with the kids playing, swinging, and laughing. It was a particularly special day for my in-laws because when my brother-in-law was 2 years old he was diagnosed with cancer and they never knew if this birthday would even come. It is a beautiful reminder to celebrate the time that you have with your loved ones. At the end of the day we were happy, grateful, and exhausted. With that in mind, I wanted to round up 15 backyard DIY activities that let you soak up summer fun with your family.

Finger Painted Giant Tiki Men

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor parties and entertaining. Luaus are a popular theme because they are fun, festive, and make you feel like you’re on a mini-vacation. Luaus create an oasis in your own backyard complete with family and friends. This is also an easy theme to DIY. You can line your tables with fringed green plastic tablecloths to represent grass skirts. You can make your own easy invitations and you can paint your own decorations. These finger painted giant tiki men are a fun and messy luau craft that lets kids get their hands dirty. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about the mess when you unleash your Clean Squad!

Before you get started painting you need to take the family for a trip to your local Wal-Mart and pick up Clorox Spray and Viva Vantage paper towels. We love how wide the aisles at Wal-Mart are! They are perfect when you have the whole family with you. They also make it easy for kids to get in on the shopping action. Little man could even shop from Papa’s shoulders which made him infinitely happy.

Once you get home, you want to clear a large space for your painting project. We moved the table and chairs from the dining room for our project. That gave us plenty of space to work with.

Unfortunately, when we moved the furniture I found some stains from goodness knows how long ago on the floor. (Note to self, kids are messy!) Thankfully, I already had my Clorox Cleaning Spray and Viva Vantage paper towels. I didn’t even have to let the Clorox soak on the stains. The stains wiped right up. Score! Once I finished, we had a clean, disinfected surface (thanks to Clorox Cleaner’s 99.9% germ killing strength) and were ready to get started.

Seriously, you guys, we spent less than 5 minutes getting everything cleaned up, including squirmy kids. The craft took longer than the clean-up and that’s how it should be. The fun should always last the longest. The Viva Vantage paper towels last, too. We used one on the floor and it was strong enough to finish the entire job!

Whipped Frozen Cinnamon Pear Pies

June the month of weddings and we are paying homage to that at this month’s Movie Monday. We were given the freedom to choose any wedding movie that we wanted. I chose the Princess Diaries 2 as my wedding movie inspiration. There are so many traits of this movie to love although not traditionally thought of as a wedding movie. One theme throughout the Princess Diaries movies is that Genovia is known for their pears. In the second one there is even a scene when Lilly, the princess’s best friend, asks if the popcorn that they are munching on tastes like pears. What better way to celebrate this awesome movie than with a delicious new pear recipe? These whipped frozen cinnamon pear pies are a cool summer treat fit for a queen!

Get ready for the most versatile glow game yet with this glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt! It is perfect for indoors, outdoors, vacations, and more.

Glow-in-the-Dark Scavenger Hunt

It’s Wednesday and that means it is time for another awesome glow game! Unfortunately storms have been ripping through our area so we aren’t getting much outdoor time this week. Hopefully we will have sunshine for Sunday but until then let’s teach you how to make and play glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt. This is my favorite glow game so far because it is so versatile. You can adapt it for indoors, parties, vacations, and a ton of other destinations. All you have to do to change it up is make a new key and clues.

Step 7

After your sheets are filled out, break your glow sticks and add your connectors.

Tip:

  • Try to keep like connectors grouped together to make them easier to hide for the game.

Step 8

Now, hide your glow sticks in the places that correspond with your hints.

Step 9

Last, give each player a scavenger hunt sheet and let the game begin.

Some Last Tips:

  • Keep your connectors because you can totally re-use them in the future. That’s why we put the tape on the connectors instead of the glow sticks. Store them in a bag along with extra printables.
  • You can use the same key for multiple games but updating with the new locations. There are multiple lines available but you can also use white-out if it fills up.
  • Save time and money by playing the scavenger hunt with teams instead of individual players. This allows you to cover fewer connectors and use fewer glow sticks for each game.

So what is your take? Does this glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt rocket to the top of your favorite glow games too? Don’t forget to print out extra sheets to take with you on vacation. It’s a great game to pull out if you get stuck in the hotel room. You can also turn it into an adventure and use it on a camping trip. Take a night hike full of glowy fun one night and then celebrate with some delicious s’mores. That’s definitely a camping win-win. Arrange Buckets

The way that you arrange your buckets will depend on how many you are using. The buckets should be divided into 2 equal groups and arranged as outlined below. Place your groups 10-20 feet apart, the prior for small children and the latter for groups of adults.

  • 8 Buckets: Arrange 4 buckets in a diamond for each group. From the bottom: 1 Bucket, 2 Buckets, 1 Bucket
  • 10 Buckets: Arrange 5 buckets in a plus sign pattern in each group. From the bottom: 1 Bucket, 3 Buckets, 1 Bucket
  • 12 Buckets: Arrange 6 buckets in each group in a triangle pattern. From the bottom: 3 Buckets, 2 Buckets, 1 Bucket

Game Play

Divide into teams and take turns trying to toss the wiffle balls into the buckets. Each time a ball lands in a bucket, that bucket is removed from play. Balls can be blocked by the defending team but team members cannot move in front of the buckets to do so. Also, if a bucket is knocked over during a block, it is still removed from play. The first team to eliminate all of their opponents’ buckets wins.

Cupcakes

It’s not practical to have the kids create their own cupcakes from scratch in the time-span of a birthday party. Instead, bring cupcakes that are already baked and iced with white frosting. Make the competition about the decorations. Encourage kids to create the most outrageous and awesome monster cupcake ever!

$ Saving Tip: Make your own cupcakes and only add enough frosting to seal them. There is going to be plenty of candy added to them at the party.

  • As the kids finish decorating their cupcakes, set them off to the side for judging.
  • Once all of the cupcakes are finished, hold up each cupcake creation one at a time and have kids and parents vote by a show of hands.

Tips:

  • We let everyone vote as many times as they wanted and still had a clear winner.
  • Keep track of votes for each cupcake in some form.
  • You can have a specified prize for the winner if you would like. We did not and the kids were still happy.

This party is a big crowd pleaser! Even kids who aren’t into crafts and art will love creating crazy candy cupcake monsters. Remember to always have a backup in case the party activities move along faster than expected. For this party we had mini notebooks for each of the kids to color on and take home. We have also had tissue paper fights in the past which are always exciting for kids. Lastly, if you’re looking to save even more on your party, don’t forget that Oriental Trading has a coupon page, too!

I’m a nerdy, crafty mom of three adorable little kids. I love writing and creating, but in my non-existent free time I also love karaoke, taking my kids to the zoo, and reading. I got my degree in Science (no idea how that happened) but I took every English class I could get my hands on because, yeah, I’m that girl.
